Re: What a mess just look at this.

I just put a C4 front suspension in my 54... Maybe you could answer a couple questions and I can feel Better about it hopefully! Lol.. This is the first time I've ever done anything like this... Hopefully someone doesn't make a thread about my install!

Re: What a mess just look at this.

No it isn't that bad! Lol... I don't know a whole lot about putting them in though. I read earlier in your thread you were talking about a protractor something(couldn't remeber what it was called) and making sure the angles were the same as the donor car. I didn't have a donor car and I tried to find as much info as I could on installing the factory c4 crossmember but found next to nothing on it. What I did was level the frame and notched it cause the crossmember was wider than the frame for the most part. After I got it placed where I wanted it I leveled the with the lower control arm..... I have no idea if this is anywhere close to being correct in anyway shape or form!

I didn't compliment you on your work either as I meant to. It looks great and maybe my truck will look half as clean as you had this one looking after fixing it!

Re: What a mess just look at this.

I was surprised this thread popped up again. Man, was the original installer a butcher. Hell, "butcher" would be a step or two UP from what he is.

Oh and while perusing it, I laughed out loud again at Bam being called a "meat puppet" after his attack dog pic's. Sounds like something your nastiest girlfriend would have called you, ha ha ha!

Re: What a mess just look at this.

Yeah it was, and I'm learning its not all that uncommon. I'm starting to meet people with a lot of these hack jobs not as bad as this was but still hacked up.

Thanks for the compliments man.

What will really scare you is there is some of that "fine quality work" out there running around on the road every day.

I am a welder, you would be amazed some of the things that have come through my front door.

Re: What a mess just look at this.

Well since I have no pics of my project to post, I thought I would share my buddy Walt's update. He just finished painting his truck and asked me to stop by and have a look. It looks great but I knew it would because he is a awesome painter.

Yeah we all do our own painting out here. Backyard paint jobs due to the prices that some of these shops are charging. My buddy Walt is a retired aircraft painter and he has taught me alot and continues do so. I keep my mouth shut and my ears open when he talks about painting.lol
He also painted this in his backyard.

Re: What a mess just look at this.

That really DOES look good.

Just out of curiosity, is this truck a frame-off restoration or an on-frame project?
The interior also looks fantastic. Do you know who did it? When the time comes I'd love to have that caliber of work done.

No its not a frame off, the cab has never been off the frame. Walt did all the interior with the exception of the seats and headliner which is going to be redone when he has the door panels done. Walt made the center console the lower part is a 1970's carmaro console and he added the top piece. The dash and console is painted. A local shop stitched the seats I know where it is but I don't have a biz card I could check with Walt and see if he knows the number.

Kabwe, yes his truck looks great. I know what you mean about listening when you can get knowledgeable info. Every bit helps when you can save a buck.

Re: What a mess just look at this.

Since this truck is done I will keep you guys posted on the 1945 Chevy that I installed the Mustang 2, engine, and trans. Its looking good.

I've never seen a Mustang 2 unit like this before so I called the company and they answered my questions and the install went smooth.

After I tacked the Mustang 2 in I stood back and checked to see if I liked how the wheels were centered in the wheel well. This was really important because the shop uninstalled original suspension and filled all the holes and box the frame so I did not have any reference points as to where to put the cross member.

I welded every nook and cranny I could reach.

I used this old block for mock up

He had the cab blasted and painted and I came by and helped him install the engine and trans

Putting the front sheet metal back on

It should be one sweet truck when he is done.

Both trucks look really nice.
Those are some nice looking welds on that MII install.

Thanks guys.

Hey Kim you've met both owners at the Brothers Show. Walt owns the yellow truck and Jimmy owns the 45. Cool guys.
