Re: Let's see pics of paintjobs done yourself...

Here is a couple, BUT the HB gun is not exactly what I would suggest using for a decent finish, but it can lay clear down OK in the right conditions. In my defense I have a few cars I have painted under my belt, used quality material (chromabase Dupont) and got it to flow OK. In retrospect a nicer Devilbiss or a similar gun would be a worthwhile investment, and the final finish would have come out nicer.

I am in the middle of a complete on my son's 61 Continental and the HB gun is staying in the cabinet for this one. Primers maybe, topcoats no, the Devilbiss 'plus' is going to be my choice for the job but that is a $300 gun new its not cheap by any means.

Thank you for the props on the truck, lots of sweat went into it

Looks great. Normally if you spray a candy over black, you don't see the candy. Sure that's not a black metallic or a charcoal metallic?

Re: Let's see pics of paintjobs done yourself...

Yup 100% because the base is off a 98 mustang black as black can be. The actual uk11 (urethane kandy) has to be over a metallic or pearl base because there is no metallics or pearls in the midcoat on a tri coat paintjob. This hok paint uses a shimmering basecoat and adds stuff to it to make it close and its very close!!! I unwrapped it and started painting some of the accesories to match the motor but here it is unwrapped!

Re: Let's see pics of paintjobs done yourself...

5 long months, but I finally got mine painted

Sanded the the body, got it ready for some primer

1st coat of Epoxy primer

Sanded to find high and low spots, then filler work

Second coat of epoxy

A good coat of Polyester primer (feateherfil)

Block sanded

4th coat of epoxy primer

Block sanded again

Epoxy mixed up as a sealer coat

Base coat

Finally Clear!

All products were from Southern Polyurethane!

It is called Heritage Blue, its on the new 2013 GMC Z71 heritage edition. I think it is also an older color called blue topaz or lemanz blue, or zenon blue. It has been on I think the 04 chev pickups, on some corvettes and on cadi cts. I saw it on a dealer custom at a local car lot and got the paint code off of it.

and thanks sduckworth

My son and I have been working on her for 3 years. It's finally close to complete. PPG DBC 2000 Synergy Green. Sprayed with an Iwata 400. My son did all the body and paint work.

Re: Let's see pics of paintjobs done yourself...

This is my 99 s10. It was sprayed with all Dupont products. It started with 2590s epoxy primer then 4 coats of 7707s surfacer. After being blocked with 320 dry then 500 wet, it was shot with 1 coat of 7770s sealer, 3 coats of a custom mixed chromapremier basecoat, and cleared with 2 coats of 74700s chromapremier pro clear. The following day everything was wet sanded with 800 then 1000 and sprayed with 2 more coats of clear. I should have washed it before I took the pics
