I haven't worked on it much in the last few months, but I'm in the mood to make some more progress so I will be working on it quite a bit this winter.

Things I've been working on:
1. Installing Inline Tube stainless brake lines and braided brake hoses
2. Replaced u-joints on front axles
3. Installed knuckles (new MOOG ball joints installed)
4. Shocks
5. Fuel lines

Basically stuff that doesn't show much progress lol. But it needs to be done and I guess it all adds up at the end of the day.

Things on my current "To Do" List
1. Finish putting the front end together, where I can have a rolling chassis
2. Re seal steering gear and paint
3. Clean, prep, and paint motor and trans
4. Install motor, trans, and transfer case
5. Replace u-joints in both drive lines, paint, and install
6. Install core support, radiator, battery tray ect...

It might be worth mentioning.
If you will put anti-seize on these cones (inside them too), before you tighten the arm to the knuckle, it will them make a lot easier to remove them in the future.
The can be a pain in the butt if they are rusted to the bolt and arm.

My main hold up on the front axle is, I forgot to order the spindle (needle) bearings and seals. They should be here in a few days, then I can get the front axle finished. I just remembered I need to fill the diff up with 85/140 gear oil.

Five boxes of 3/8" stainless fasteners = $152.09 from Lowes. I was ticked off when I got home and priced some from Amazon and Ebay, and they were both cheaper by over 50%!!! Also I got my order in from Inline Tube, it was $75 worth of brake line hold down clamps, and hose clamps. Spending this much on little stuff drives me nuts.

I used oven cleaner, SOS pads, and a wire wheel to clean the transmission. Then painted it.

I cleaned the motor and masked it off. I bought the POR 15 Chevy orange motor paint kit and a paint gun. I thought it might look better sprayed rather than brushed on. The kit comes with a primer to put on before the orange top coat. The best that I could tell from the can of primer, was that it was just plain old semi gloss POR 15. The primer went on well with a 1.8 tip and 30 psi.

The instructions of the paint kit said to let primer dry until there was a slight drag with your finger. So after about 5 hours it was ready for the orange top coat. And here is where things went wrong. It was splattering paint out of the gun. Also I should probably say that this is the first thing that I've ever shot with a paint gun. I was using the same air pressure and same settings on the gun as I did with the primer, but the orange paint was thicker than the black primer and I think this is why it was splattering. So with no painting experience, I played with the air pressure and paint gun settings, but it was still not going to work. Then I remembered the instructions said that the orange paint could be thinned up to 20% with the thinner supplied in the kit. The primer was drying fast, so I quickly (rough guessing at amounts) mixed the 20% and tried it again. It flowed ok ,and as I shot it the paint started running, and I could still see black primer shining through the orange. I was so aggravated and disgusted. I was out of paint, it wasn't covering, and the primer was running like a Kenyan at a track meet. I grabbed a sponge brush and tried to knock down the runs the best that I could. I ordered more orange paint and asked for advice on the Paint Forum of this sight.

I got a new can of orange paint in and after getting some good advice from notsolo, I tried to shoot the water pump and see if I could get it right. It came out great. The black is not showing through the orange and it didn't run. The runs and sags from the first coat still show but it's not too bad. I will try it on the motor in a few days, after it warms up. I paint outside so I wait until it is at least 65 degrees in the afternoon.

Paint drama

Blasted the TBSS manifolds and smoothed them with a carbide burr. I was going to have them Jet Hot coated but I saw where people have had good results with POR 15 High Temp paint. Two coats with a brush and then 350 degrees for an hour. They look great right now, but only time will tell.
