1969 Camaro "Yenko" Clone

After I beat the crap out of the car, it was time for something easy, beadblast some parts!!!! I got about 3/4's done i gave up, enough for today I will finish the rest tomorrow. I started looking at the hood of the car, it is like something blew up underneath it and corroded the metal horribly, I started looking at this one, then my spare one. Well the spare one is beat on the outside, too much mud, and the original is mint, The inside of the spare on is mint and the inside of the original is bad!!!! SO, Guess what I might end up doin. You all take a chance at what I am gonna do, cab you say cut it up a little.

What kind of media are you using in your cab. I have one too but haven't purchased any grit yet, not sure what to buy yet. Parts look great! I can see you're going to hack two hoods to make one good one right?

Glass, the grit is 60 I believe. I payed 8 dollars a bag. You are right on the hoods, 2 into 1, the cowl induction on the other one, there is plans for yet, hmmmmmm, wonder what it is going on? something........ in the near future that belongs to me....... oh yeah.

Stumbled upon this thread I saw 2 first gens today. Pretty cool being way up north I don't see to many.. spring fever i think.

But awesome build I just read threw the whole thing! really amazing work. love the attention to detail.. on the lines and everything. Cant wait to see the finished product. should be a really nice clean Camaro.

The bead blaster works well. Looks like a battery exploded under hood and splattered acid on it.

Nah, not yet at least, this will be going on a current ride of mine!!!! I hate the aftermarket cowl hoods, but LOVE the factory hoods.

nope, i just used a mig and tig rod as a filler.

So, it was easter a little bit ago, did not do much work on the car, However, there is some now. The Brown Santa showed up with some more parts, how I love him!!!!!, I decided to make 1 hood out of two, I used a stock 69 Z/28 hood I had and the Aftermarket one from this camaro. The stock ones outside ws rough, but the inner structure was great, and it was the other way around for the other hood, sooooo, out came the spot weld drill. Oncethey were apart I had some cleaning up to do, after that, I epoxied the underside of the hood and just primerd the underside of the inner structure. stop any future rust issues here. Once dried, put my dabs of seam sealer on the structure and set the two together. At this point I called a friend to come over and help me for a bit. I tacked all for corners of the hood then indtalled it on the car. Once it was on, we pushed and leveled it and got it welded together so that it lines up wit hthe fenders and front valance. Soon after that it became clear that the hood hit the front valance or header as some call it, so out came the zip disc and we started cutting, next thing you know, we now have a perfect gap on the hood and it lines up great. I just have to do a few more tweaks to it and done we are. Feels so good. All that is left for metal working now is the grille opening, soon to be done!!!!

I went to the huge charlotte autofair this weekend for 3 days, and another local show (turn out was really good) as well. I saw sooooooo many of these cars. Everything from show cars to clapped out rust buckets like project swiss cheese. Prices were all over the map, but they all had one thing in common, they were all really high

A vendor showcasing their body rotisserie had a "restored" First gen camaro tub on the rack, and I spent a good half hour studying it. They don't look too bad at all, nothing patience couldn't handle. And after seeing some of the flat out rust buckets for sale for $4-6K, I feel really good about my dad's car.

It should be cleared with white stripes and take tours around the US and Canada to all the major shows to show people how it's supposed to be done

You should feel good about your dads car, I know I would. as for the "restored" cars, some just should not be called that.
