Re: Post your Bed Wood/Metal - Customized/Modified or Stock

Thanks guys. I didn't seal this stuff, because this was a very quick deal. I may go back through and clean it up and seal and/or stain it. Haven't really decided yet.

What color is that? My 65 was originally GMC Light Red (514) and I've been trying to find some new paint jobs using that color to see what it would look like.

Re: Post your Bed Wood/Metal - Customized/Modified or Stock

Looking for advise. This is what my bed looks like now. My original plan was to install white powder coated bed strips to match the inside of the bed and have oak wood. But I am rethinking that idea and might go with the polished stainless strips. What do you all think would look best?

Polished stainless. There is already quite a bit of white in there now. Wood looks great.

I agree. Polished stainless will break up the white and accent the wood color.
Great looking truck by the way!

Thank you both for your complements and you advice. I also think that the Polished stainless will reflect the white anyway and give it a similar effect. I guess I know what to ask for for Christmas.

Re: Post your Bed Wood/Metal - Customized/Modified or Stock

I took the inspiration you all gave me from this website and embarked on raising my bed floor up 3-3/4" to be able to route fuel filler hose and vent hose better and out of the bed floor. So enter a 1987 square body longbed donor bed, rust free, and many, many cutting wheels later. I'm still not 100% done, but close enough to post up what I did. I followed Robber Grins idea to raise the bed sills up, thank you! And then started measuring and cutting, and more cutting.

Nice job. The 87 wheel tubs bolted to your 60-66 bed with no issues?

They directly bolt to the bed floor and I drilled four holes into my inner bedside to bolt them to the bed sides. When I find two more 80's wheel tubs I'll cut them up and weld them to these wheel tubs and fill the new gap behind them where they are 3-3/4" taller.

One piece of 3/4 cabinet grade plywood, that was split down the middle and covered in tiger stripe veneer. New stainless with the sliding adjustable bolts.
Bed was also raised 3" due to the lowering of the truck. Sides were sprayed with Raptor liner.

Thanks, tried to keep it as functional as possible as this truck is nothing more than a bike hauler so I don't want to cry anytime someone throws something in the box
