Re: Dumptruck Dolly
I’ve been getting ready for winter...expecting a few inches of snow tonight. Dolly’s dump box is up and her 4x4 suspension is in the garage, ready for me to work on it again. The 1972 C50 dumper is new to me and I put some $$$ into wheels and tires.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
You will be needing the 4x4 in no time the way this fall is going!

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
Thank you...also hung some mud flaps, painted the box, added radio antenna...pictures to come
...I had to put some of my $$$ stash into wheels and tires on the C50 to make it safe to drive. I have some cool ideas IMO for the big dumper, and will document it at some time. |

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
You're growing quite a nice fleet of vehicles. Also, nice trick with the aluminum foil as masking material before paint. Beautiful results, too.

Hopefully the fleet will start to combine into one or two real nice trucks. The yellow 72 Chevy is a real drivetrain keeper… 402 big block with factory air, disc brakes and tilt column. That one should be fun as well. I do have to get to my short box that is on the rack inside the garage first. |

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
Cleaned up Dolly, put on some side boards for the dump box. Check out how nice the floor of the box is.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
Here’s Dolly’s partner. 1972 Chevy C50, 4yd box, 350 sb with camelback heads, 4 speed+2speed rearend. New 22.5” one piece wheels with new 10.00 drives and steers...The crooked bumper is because the bottom bolts of the bumper aren’t there, a previous owner issue, so I’ll have to press that heavy beast into position and bolt it.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
I did not make it to the car show...with the temps dropping below freezing, I had to get my heavy equipment in their yard positions for plowing. I don’t like running the big stuff when it’s real cold because 1. I don’t have to...and 2. Things break when cold/hydraulics etc...

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
I am getting back to Dolly...I won’t get into why the delay. Here is a pic of the 3 trucks that currently are insured. I’ve been driving the car hauler and Dolly quite often this spring. Included is a pic of Dolly heading east on Hwy 169 between Tower and Ely Mn.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
Removing old bushings...grinder with a cut off wheel worked well in the space available at the eyelet. I folded an edge over, and drove it out with a 3 lb hammer and chisel...wasn’t the worst job ever.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
After pressing out the last bushing, I put the 2 piece rubber bushings in using liquid soap and let them sit overnight. Otherwise they kept popping out trying to rush the placement of the steel sleeve.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
Here I’ve slid and tapped the metal sleeve into the rubber bushings utilizing soap...easy. Now, what is the “G” on one of the leaf springs...a weight or length demarcation? Let me know.
