Wow, thanks for the props guy!!!

Yeah meathead, those SWB frames are like Big Foot around here. Everyone talks about them, but very few have seen one. And if you do find one, the owner will say he "plans on fixing it up someday", or he knows what he has and wants a mint for it. Then factoring in the time and $$$ it takes to travel to get one, we are better off out here just to cut em.

As far as resale value, I don't think Alex is too concerned about that. I know I'm not with mine. Its been debated here before, but my personal opinion is that if its done right (and shows), it shouldn't matter. UNLESS it is a factory-type resto, then it might. But for the type of builds guys like Alex and I are doing out here, I don't think it will matter. But I will never know, since my son would beat me if I ever decided to sell the Atomic Orange!

But its all good here!

Alex, its looking killer bud! Hopefully you will have the block back in the GatorHyde shop when I swing by on Saturday.

I can assure you when I'm done, it's won't make one hill of beans that the frame was shortened...and done very very well I might ad. And to whom ever does have a problem with it....C-YA.

OK channel cap shaving is done! Lots of spot welding and lots of grinding. I ran a bead of sandable liquid steel epoxy to fill the very tiny pin holes along the edge of the firewall and at the front weld then smoothed it with acetone. SPI epoxy primer tomorrow and then back to my filler work. I am very happy with the results!

Thanks again guys! I had welder fear prior to the shortening of my frame (watching Glock)...not no more!!! LOL!!!

Changed my mind on the previous Chevy orange steering components offsetting color. Judge and jury came up with the decision that the only other color besides the silver/gray frame color...that can and has to be be used is gloss black. I've been collecting BBC parts, Thanks Frank!!! One more coat of gloss black too!

Thanks Jim. Lil' Red is done...well sort of...they are never all the way done are they??? She is done to the point that everything operates and she runs and rolls down the road in a safe legal manor. I have a few other little minor things that needs tweekin'...but I would say Lil' Red is done.

I do love the look of the smoothed firewall Jim, and thanks Smokey for the kind words.

Alex you do nice work. I thought I was getting close to being done with my cab but you got me thinking I might not. I was a green welder when I started but it is just a matter of doing it to learn. I got great advise on this board when it comes to welding... "You can always put it back" meaning its only metal you can re-weld it if you mess up. Thanks for the inspiration for my project with your Lil red project. I followed that thread or threads too. Did you ever find out what happen to the roof that fell?

going a great job chevydude, ive got 2 ? for ya, when you capped the wire gutter near the firewall, did you just tac it to the firewall then grind the welds (see pic)?




also you smoothed the firewall and filled the spot welds, why did you leave these? or you gonna come back to em?

The 18 gauge piece that I used to cap the channel fit very close to the back of the firewall. I tacked the front and then bent the piece around. When tacking the back I started the arc on the firewall and rolled my wrist bringing the arc across to the new 18 ga. cap. Lots of short welding blasts. Then went back and grinded from two angles holding the grinder up and then level to make the weld as flat and tidy as possible. I didn't do any filler work on the factory spot welds yet. They will all be filled smooth.

Thanks Palf70Step. Lots of filler work, sanding ...then to pick my main color. I am leaning towards SPI Orange, with their Universal clear. Cab roof to be SPI white as per the factory paint and I think I want to do a wide white panel down the sides and across the tailgate. Anyone know how wide they painted the off-setting white panel??? Nothing looks better than perfectly cut and rubbed Black on arrow straight body work!....that's the key....straight bodywork.

Cuz the flipside is nothing looks worse than nice Black paint on wavy bodywork!!

If your confident in your bodyguy and you're willng to put a little more effort into keeping it up....I'd say DO IT.
