Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Got rid of the crappy braided wrap on all the hoses.
Replaced the copper and rubber fuel and vacuum lines with steel. Replaced the Edelbrock carb with a 4175 Holley I just rebuilt. And a new high vol water pump.

Valve covers are still available

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I like the affect 9teen69.
This week: Thanks to Frank I located the rear window moldings. I'm still searching for great "paint separator" moldings, should anyone have a lead. Less window frame rubber, that's all that's needed for a complete exterior. Polished the bed brace bolts up. I may have come to a nice system for prepping small parts. 1. Optional, depends on condition of paint: Soak in paint thinner for a bit, maybe half a day. 2. Soak in white vinegar for a day, two if you need it. 3. Polish them up (wire bushes) as you wash using baking soda & water. Maybe soak in soda solution afterwards, for a bit. 4. Rinse. 5. Soak them in WD-40 for a day. 6. Wipe them down. I'm no metal expert for certain, and I'm not sure WD-40 is the answer, but it seems oil for these small parts is a good thing. Removed the paint from the differential. Paint removal wise, all that's left under the bed are the drive line and rear axle. Nice to find there's no rust. A little surface rust on the frame, and tight areas around the differential, but all comes off with ease using white vinegar.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
nate thanks for the tip. i'll have too find some of that acid.I reblasted them and ready too try again.
blasted the front bumper and front side of my caps(backs are allready done). bumper had alot of stone chip pits in it but its in awesome shape for a oe peice. so i put a few coats of 2k high build over the epoxy. the caps got the same treatment these will end up being painted the same design as a 68 cap but with the the argent silver being 526 white and the black being 503 green. just for a differnt look. i'll still have a set of nice oe 67 caps it'll be cool too change them up every now and then

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Started cleaning my RH front end. Getting ready for new rotors, caliper and brake lines next week. Has to be 5lbs lighter.
Shouldn't have cleaned it up now I notice my balljoints are hammered. As bad as my ball joints are I'm surprised my truck drives so well. A bit better than the LH now.

Towed my 72 200 miles home after the engine seized up while I was visiting my dad for Father's day last sunday. Now to pull it and figure out what happened.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Started media-blasting my bed parts. Using a $50 HFT blaster. Once I resolved the humidity issues (3 air filters in series does well enough), did a pretty good job. Would be better with a larger air compressor, but I can't run anything bigger (no 220v). So, frequent breaks so the compressor can catch up.
But it's doing great at getting rid of the surface rust. So, I got that going for me, which is nice.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Over the weekend, I replaced the water pump (made little difference, must be the radiator needs replacing...temps just a bit too high. I was thinking the impeller may have corrosion and causing cavitation. A new water pump is peace of mind anyway). I also rebuilt the door hinges on the driver door. Plastic bushing were worn totally out. hinges now have virtually zero play. But, I am having trouble adjusting door strike of all things. before, door closed relatively easy...especially if I lift door slightly when closing. Now, it takes a slam and sometime bangs hard. May be that latch is wearing out. I have the strike adjusted per service manual. Next is to play with strike position to see result. Just too damn hot and tired to figure it out on Sunday. Getting those hinges off and then readjusting the door is a PITA.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Today, RESTED, because yesterday, I drove down to NC to meet Panel Deland, and I got to sit in his panel! :-) :-)
He also hit me with some great advice about what I have to look forward to and he gave me a cowl in exchange for helping him put his hood back on. I then went to see a friend and so, I didn't leave until midnight. I slept about an hour at a VA rest stop and got home at 4 AM. I was so tired I slept till 6 AM in the car, in the driveway! |

Took the truck for a ride today, Took my garmin with me. I wanted to check my speedometer. At the lower speeds 1 to 2 miles off. At 65 only 1 mile off, what a surprise.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I got the 348 dropped in and bolted to the transmission. Motor mounts don't work, hitting the exhaust manifold. don't know if bb mounts will work, hate to order them, wait for them to get here and find out they don't work either. I'm going to think on this one, trial and error. Whats a fool to do!

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I'm back from burying Mom , I went by the paint jail to - day to see if Paco found my gone missing original gas cap ~ he was out chasing parts so his Wife took a note reminding him I'll never stop asking for this hard to find part .
Anyone here who has the correct original painted cap with stamped in ring , I'll buy it , rusty and cruddy , I don't care .
