Re: Project 67 GMC custom 6.5 turbo diesel

Sorry to hear of your loss. Keep an eye on craigslist or on other boards classifieds as 6.2L and 6.5L motors come up typically for $500 or less. Just some food for thought.

PM me how much you would want for the whole thing. My buddy might be interested in it as is.

Re: Project 67 GMC custom 6.5 turbo diesel

Drove the 84 GMC 6.2 and 700r4 home today. Runs and drives great. Gonna reg. it tomorrow and put it to work. I'll be pulling the wheels, and receiver hitch off the gmc but I'm thinking that I'm going to part it out. This truck has been that girlfriend that keeps cheating on your and you still go back to her. I think its now time to part ways. To everyone who has been watching the thread have a good holiday and new year and I'll see you next year. If I determine that parting it is best for me the truck will run through ebay in pieces.

Hey sorry to hear about your motor. I'm working on swapping a 6.2 into my '68. Trying to get the motor mounts figured out. Did you use the SBC stands and mounts? or did you have to get BBC stands?

Re: Project 67 GMC custom 6.5 turbo diesel

I pulled the smallblock mounts off my 350 and bolted them on my 6.2. My 4wd crossmember contacted the oil pan though, I'm not sure about the 2wd.

Which stands did you use? BB or SB?

Re: Project 67 GMC custom 6.5 turbo diesel

I didn't know there was different stands. For what its worth my truck came with a smallbock. But the 6.2's and 6.5's are a fuzz bigger than a big block. Maybe the bigblock stands would eliminate the oilpan clearance issue.

Re: Project 67 GMC custom 6.5 turbo diesel

Well life goes on and my now 16 year old with a driver license wants this truck operational again. So ive sold the th400 got a 700r4, detuned it a bit and picked up a goodwrench 6.5 with 65k on it. Installed serp set with 2000 water pump and spin on clutch, fluidamper, billet crank pulley, and all the 6.5 turbo stuff. Got new wheels and tires, hooking up dual tank electronics, redoing lowback blazer buckets in black/white houndstooth, and installing 2023 tahoe jump seat that will be done in matching houndstooth. May put the tilt in it thats been on the shelf ffor decades.

Re: Project 67 GMC custom 6.5 turbo diesel

Couple pics. Didnt take many of tear down and engine install. Pic with kiddo under it is tear down, motor installed is “new” goodwrench motor, and front clip and bumper are just resting in place to keep it out of weather. Hopping for some local cars and coffee this summer with my son. He can drive this and ill mob the chevelle.

Re: Project 67 GMC custom 6.5 turbo diesel

This has all been sped up since my 1984 GMC high sierra C20 with 6.2 diesel and sm465 was stolen at 3:30 am on 4/1. Tried posting pics but got error. Truck stolen from sacramento, ca with mass plates. Tan and white two tone. 73-80 tailage with sticker bombed aluminum band with 6.2 diesel emblem bolted to band. Dash pad and pass door panel poorly wrapped in black. Driver door panel still tan. All for headlights are led with orange halo drl set up. Electric vacuum pump underbhood mounted by driver side hinge. Big dent on ps bed side frome recent fender bender.
