adjust side to side gap on hood
Before I do something stupid, which would a nice change, I thought I would ask the group first. I put the hood on my '67 with it all the way forward in the slots. When I checked to see how the fender to hood gap was one side was tight and the other had about a 3/8" gap. The gap looks even all the way down so the hood is not crooked. I loosened the hood bolt and pushed the hinge over to see if that would help but it didn't. All the parts are OEM so I'm not dealing with an after market issue.
My question is how best can I address this issue? From what I can find out on the forum and internet you just bend the hinge to fender part of the hinge to force it over.

Re: adjust side to side gap on hood
I thought about fender shims but have never seen them used for the hood hinge. Just wanted to see what everyone did to address this issue. Utube was no help and I haven't been able to find any help on the forum. The ones I have found only address the rear of the hood or front alignment

Re: adjust side to side gap on hood
Mine was off about 1/16" when I put it on, I thought about slotting the hinges a little wider but my body guy came buy, looked at it, opened it up and just violently pushed it over toward the wide side a few times.
It lined it up perfectly.

Re: adjust side to side gap on hood
Lmao, thanks A1971 Blazer. I thought about doing something like that but usually get in trouble when I do
I'll give it try and see if it works for me.

Re: adjust side to side gap on hood
That's exactly the way they did it on the assembly lines.. 2X4s, big guys, push a little, pull a little.. Ask Keith Seymore...

Re: adjust side to side gap on hood
I've done this several times. The only way to correct side to side gaps.

Re: adjust side to side gap on hood
The hood latch striker that attaches to the underside of the hood is adjustable. You can loosen its four mounting bolts and scoot it left or right. Even if you massage the hinges so that the hood wants to be centered, an off-center striker will push the hood out of position as it engages the latch.

Re: adjust side to side gap on hood
Side to side I did as others....Just get a little rough with her. She'll straighten out. I got pretty close with this method. It was ok but not perfect. Then I placed the rubber bumpers in the hood channel. That really helped fine tune the fit. And yes, allow the hood pin to float some the tighten down. Once all done, the bumpers not only finished centering but also gave a nice pop when I released the hood. Adjusting the hood pin really gave a nice feel to opening the hood. I no longer needed to grip exercise daily to open my hood.
