trailer connector

http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/...psa171429d.jpg
I thought when I first saw the trailer connector that someone had drilled a hole in the body panel but after removing it the hole appears to be stamped cut. Was this a factory installed trailer connector? Just curious. Even the wiring harness appears to be factory. A crazy place to put a trailer connector. Anybody seen this before?

Not factory.

a) No factory trailer connectors until much later.

b) That is a terrible looking hole. Looks like a beaver chewed it. Not a factory cut.

Re: trailer connector

Thanks, Keith. Yes, it is ugly. I will be welding and filling it. Just curious about the strange looking hole.

Re: trailer connector

I never heard of a factory installed trailer connector. However, what is interesting is that my truck came with the factory UY1 camper wiring, and the hole through the frame behind the cab that the harness passes through is very ragged as is the one pictured above. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture in my collection to share.

...athough....your post reminds me that the shifter hole in my '65 GTO also looks like it was chewed there by a beaver....as built in Pontiac Michigan...

Re: trailer connector

Yep, that is why I brought it up. How would one even reproduce such a hole? Certainly not with a drill motor. "That is why I suggested it looks like a stamped out hole, not a drilled hole. A mystery.

Well I agree not factory. Almost looks like it was cut with a small torch. I have seen some muffler guys cut with a welding tip. Heat shut off acetylene... heat and repeat.....

Re: trailer connector

might be wrong but it looks like an oxy/acetylene torch cut to me, but maybe there was a metal eating beaver chewing on that thing.
