I'm not sure who told you that, but he would be incorrect for a long bed. I no longer have that frame, but I have some old pictures of when I redid the bed wood on my 63. It'll be the same as your truck. I forgot I had these pictures way back in the files.

For a long bed, there's 3 full bed to frame crossmembers in front of the wheel wells that bolt the bed to the frame. There is a short crossmember that does not bolt anywhere to the frame, but it does tie the front of the wheel tubs together and provides an additional crossmember for bed bolts. The rear of the wheel tubs bolt into a full bed to frame crossmember.
