oil pressue pegged over 60psi

Ok guys, I just bought this 83 SWB and trying to fix a few lose ends. One is the oil pressure gauge / sensor pegging past 60psi. Just to be safe I put a new sensor on it, the bigger one that is suppose to be for gauges. Turned on the key, same thing oil gauge is pegged. So , I disconnected the brown wire from the gauge and turned the key back on, same thing, accept the truck would not start. So, I am thinking this is for the sensor that tells the fuel pump that there is oil pressure, so I plugged it back in and bingo, truck started.
What I know is that this 350 is from an 87 and may need two sensors. What is the best route for me to take. I know there is suppose to be a oil port above the oil filter, I looked but there is nothing installed there. Should I get another sensor, is so which one, Will I need to run a 2nd wire to the oil gauge? Seems like some rewiring may have to take place. I have a manual gauge, I could run the oil line from the port above the filter into the cab, I really don’t like the idea of oil up there.
Thoughts ?

Based on some testing my oil sensor is working ok, seems to be in my gauge cluster. Going to pull it out and see if the tan wire from the sensor is plugged into the correct location that the gauge cluster

BTW. My understanding the same tan wire will function for the Gauges and to satisfy the computer to allow the truck to run.

So, the pegging of the oil gauge must be pinned to the wrong place on the gauge cluster. The only way I know to check that is to pull the cluster, look for the tan wire on the pigtail and see what position it is plugged into, if the match, back to the drawing board.

By the way, to test your oil sensor, take your multimeter, set it to ohms, lower setting, find where the tan wire from the sensor goes to the block, poke the + prong into the block along side the tan wire and ground the - prong. You should still have a closed connections by meter shows a 1. Now start your motor, check it again, you should see about 80o. This told me my oil sensor is good.

Another test , disconnect the tan wire, turn the key on, if you see the oil psi pegged out again, your issue is in your gauge cluster.

I will post my findings in the cluster on Monday after I pull it out and check the pinning.

There may be nothing wrong with it if it has an aftermarket oil pump on it. I run over 60 cold and about 45-50 hot with my Summit Racing high volume pump with a small spring shim in it. If you don't want the higher pressure, remove the spring shim or drop to the next size down spring depending on the oil pump brand.

True I have a high volume high pressure on my 454 and it runs over 60, but this one is a stock 350 with the stock oil pump. It should only be between 30-40 at idel.

and , I pulled the wire from the sensor to the gauge, the gauge still pegged without the motor running.
