Estimate trucks build month? Flint assembly

Hi everyone, I’m restoring an 87 Chevy v10 and its original door jam sticker is missing. Doors were replaced at one point. I would like to get a new door jamb sticker printed but I’d like to know the build month/year first. It was built at flint and the sequential number is 3477XX. Any other 87 flint trucks have a sequence number near that one? Thank you!

Re: Estimate trucks build month? Flint assembly

Flint built 60 jobs per hour, two production shifts per day.

My '87 was built 9/29/86 and the VIN is 317xxx.

I assume you meant pick up truck.

Flint also built Blazer/Suburban on a separate line at 36 jobs per hour.

Thanks Keith! And yes, it’s a V10 pickup. Thanks for replying. I actually messaged you too. But you replied to my thread before I even sent the message. That helps me a lot and I should be able to get my build month in the ballpark

Re: Estimate trucks build month? Flint assembly

So: 347,000 - 317,000 is 30,000 units.

60 per hour x 8 hours x 2 shifts is roughly 960 units per day (assuming no overtime and no breakdowns).

30,000 divided by 960 = 31.25 production days.

Counting from 9/29 up 31 production days (assuming no weekend work) puts you on or around November 11, 1986.

Or - you could contact the GM Heritage Center and order the original invoice for your truck, which would have the information shown above including build dates, ship dates, option content, pricing plus any discounts, and selling dealership information.

I actually contacted them early today and I was considering buying the trucks original invoice. But I didnÂ’t know if the build date would be on the invoice. But that answers that question. IÂ’m going to go ahead and by my invoice from the heritage center. Thank you!

Re: Estimate trucks build month? Flint assembly

Report back once you get it. I'm mildly curious to see how we did on our estimate.

My trucks build date was 12/09/86. The GM archives really came through quickly on that one. And it was also sold at Don’s Brooklyn Chevrolet in cleaveland Ohio. Ironically, I bought it from copart in cleaveland Ohio. It really didn’t travel all that far in its lifetime.
