Big Brakes with OE Rotors and OE Brembo 4 piston calipers
This is an idea I had that maybe one of our vendors can pick up an run with. PRO Performance is already half way there with one of their exclusive kits.
You'll end up with 14.1732 inch (360 mm) diameter x 1.2519 inch (31.8 mm) thick rotor with a factory 5x5 (5x126.8 mm) bolt pattern. These rotors come on the Jeep Grand Cherokee with the HEMI. They are readily available from parts stores as well as aftermarket manufacturers with dimples and slots. Use the 2006- 2010 Grand Cherokee SRT8 rotors, these are NOT the SRT8 big brakes of the newest 2011+ Jeep... (R1 Concept front and rear pictured) You also get a Brembo produced 4 piston caliper that came on both Dodge/Chrysler vehicles as well as Mercedes-Benz. Here is cross reference list from RockAuto.com CHRYSLER 300 (2005 - 2014) DODGE CHALLENGER (2008 - 2015) DODGE CHARGER (2006 - 2014) DODGE MAGNUM (2006 - 2008) JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE (2006 - 2010) MERCEDES-BENZ CL600 (2007 - 2014) MERCEDES-BENZ S550 (2010 - 2013) MERCEDES-BENZ S600 (2007 - 2013) Here are the PRO Performance hubs that look to be billet aluminum. So, do you need some kit parts to make these work? On my C20 to C10 drop spindle front conversion kit, I believe it requires the 1.25" rotors...

Re: Big Brakes with OE Rotors and OE Brembo 4 piston calipers
If you want to get silly, the 2011+ brakes have front rotors coming in at 380 mm or 14.9606 inches x 34 mm or 1.3385...
And the calipers are the 6 piston Brembo variety |

Re: Big Brakes with OE Rotors and OE Brembo 4 piston calipers
I have minimal experience with serious brake upgrades on 4 wheeled vehicles, but have done some on motorcycles. On them, oem "brembo" parts (or similar) don't tend to be the same quality as aftermarket brembo. Not saying they're bad parts though.
I'd be surprised if the stock master works well with that too.

I designed and built a big brake upgrade on my 72 K5 with a Dana 60 front axle. I used 2010 Dodge RAM 14" slip on rotors and 4 piston calipers. I did also swap in a rear disc axle and upgraded to hydroboost as well. I was lucky with the OE hub and made it all fit together. Haven't run the package yet but I have a version 2.0 that I'm thinking of that uses new hubs from Spintek with a different offset. |

As for hubs, I have a Niece that works at a local CNC shop who could get the hubs done, but again, we would need a dimensional drawing or a hub my son could reverse engineer.

Re: Big Brakes with OE Rotors and OE Brembo 4 piston calipers
There are a ton of options out there, getting someone to cut up the brackets and sell them is another story. With caliper brackets and custom hubs this package would be as expensive as all the other big brake systems out there.

Bottom line... if people who really want this, come together and pool resources and skills to make it happen, it can happen. Outside of a vendor specializing in this type of work, and who has significant, built in, overhead costs to cover, no one person has 100% of what it takes to pull it off... but a group of people with skills and resources and limited or no overhead... can.

Re: Big Brakes with OE Rotors and OE Brembo 4 piston calipers
Has anyone gone any further with this. I am looking at doing something similar, but maybe just using the rotors and running a c5 type caliper. Are there any sources for just the hubs?

Re: Big Brakes with OE Rotors and OE Brembo 4 piston calipers
KORE3 made them before. I worked w/them years ago developing a C5 based big brake set-up that worked w/your spindles (you modded your own spindles). But, as stated in one of the previous posts, pricing impacts demand so I'm not sure if the set-up is a current inventory type of item.

They make custom front suspension parts... Someone could get them to make a spindle replacement that uses the factory SRT8 jeep HUB, rotor AND caliper that mates to factory control arms or custom arms set up for bags.... MOOG hub p/n 513234 Last edited by mcmlxix; 08-11-2016 at 12:41 AM. |

Re: Big Brakes with OE Rotors and OE Brembo 4 piston calipers
Not that I have checked the fit but a 60s Cadillac front hub uses the same wheel bearings as a square. I have one here in the floor, the drum needs to be removed to try it though. Jay

Re: Big Brakes with OE Rotors and OE Brembo 4 piston calipers
I'm in the middle of doing a similar brake upgrade on my truck. CPP Modular spindles, CPP forged aluminum hubs, 2nd Gen CTS-V rotors and calipers, and custom caliper brackets. The parts are at a machine shop now to have caliper brackets made. We'll probably have a few extra sets of brakets made if anyone is interested. You'll need at least 18" wheels, and the hubs are 5x4.75 but othe patterns may be available.

Re: Big Brakes with OE Rotors and OE Brembo 4 piston calipers
I like the concept! Can you post a link of the CPP parts that you used?
AZ Pro Performance has a decent kit for the C10's now. I just wish there were other companies that made brackets to allow the use of calipers and such that a person already had. For instance I have C5, C6 and the "LS Series" Camaro brakes and such already so I just need brackets to bolt the calipers to aftermarket spindles. Re: Big Brakes with OE Rotors and OE Brembo 4 piston calipers
The reason I thought of the SRT8 parts was the rotor is OE 5x5 bolt pattern. It would be nice to use the sealed bearing too...
http://www.littleshopmfg.com does a lot of custom parts. They may be willing to work with someone to design and build a kit. |

I think this would be an awesome OEM upgrade if we can find a way to make this work. Would it be possible to make a pair of hubs using 73 C10 hub/rotor assemblies by machining off the rotor portion of the assembly? They're listed for $64 for a pair on RockAuto. That would solve the hub part while allowing you to use stock bearings spindle nut, etc. SRT8 performance PowerStop rotors list for $140/pair on RockAuto while the remanufactured calipers sell for $200/set and brake pads for $68. Has anyone asked Tobin if he would be interested in making a bracket for this? He lists his other similar brackets at about $100 per pair and brake lines at another $100. That would put the total costs at: $64 - 73 Hub/Rotors (not including machining) $140 - SRT8 Rotors (Rabestos) $200 - SRT8 Remanufactured Calipers $68 - SRT8 Brake pads $100 - Caliper brackets $100 - SS brake lines Total Cost = $672 (That's using premium parts from RockAuto, not the economy stuff) Does anyone have any experience on using machined down heavy duty C10 hub/rotors as hubs? OP, would you be interested in this kit if I could find someone to assist in manufacturing the mounts for the calipers? Cheers! |

The Impala SS brakes are small single piston calipers compared to the SRT8 brakes that use 4 piston Brembo calipers.

I understand that but if it is the same braking system these trucks used, any cheap upgrade they are using might be a viable swap for a truck.
