Getting One Today

I'm excited to pick up my new pickup today after work. It's a LWB 72 C10 with 350/350, Air, PS, PB and Wood Bed. I'll post pics as soon as it arrives.
I do, however have one simple question for you guys. I thought I could tell the difference between 71 and 72 but the owner says the title states 72 I haven't seen the title. With the exception of the color, it looks identical to my 71. There is what looks like a home made SPID so I don't think that will be much help. How can I tell the difference between the model years?

One way. is a lone screw in the door panel below the wing window. It was in 72's only, helps w/ rattle....

Easiest way is by the VIN. A 72 will begin with CCE142 and a 71 will begin with CE141. Physical differences are interior door panels and rearview mirror.

71-only grille surround had a black perimeter stripe whereas 72 did not. Not a great indicator though as they are interchangeable and the stripe usually wears off quite a bit from the 71 grille surrounds. All aftermarket are 72-type with no black perimeter striping on the grille surround. Other than the VIN (the metal one on the drivers side door opening - and, all that REALLY matters...), the door things mentioned above (screw, panels) and mirror are the best indicators. But, doors are interchangeable also... Mirrors can change too, but when going from 71 to 72 style, I believe some holes are left in the 71 cab (good clue). VIN tags are not (or, at least, SHOULD not be). When you pick it up - I'd make sure the VINS all match (SPID (fake or not), metal tag, and frame (not as important to me)) - just so you can be comfortable or, at least, aware of the originality.

I don't want to change up the thread but are you talking about the black around the headline door area like in pic.

My 72 has the black stripe..... All origional truck.

Check the rivets on the metal tag in the driver side doorwell. They should be a "star" shaped, not perfectly round....although that's not a difference between year models, it will tell you if that plate has been removed and been reattached, quite possibly, from another truck.

As mentioned, a '71 VIN will start CE1 and a '72 VIN will start CCE1. That is absolute. Parts can be changed or even early/late production carry-overs

71 cabs are the only year where there's a raised pad above the windshield to mount the rear view mirror.

Correct, The prior years did not have this pad. 71 and prior had the rear view mirror on the cab (special pad mount 71 only), while 72 had the mirror mounted to the windshield.

OK, it's definitely a 72. I drove it the 20 miles to get home last night with no issues. It needs an A/C compressor, condenser and drier but it runs and idles well. The only issue is that some PO has sprayed it with bed liner. The bed is wood and the liner is only on the sides and tailgate. Anyone know how to get the stuff off?
