Help, I know what I think it is....

Check it out, it was inline on my lower heater core hose, and I beleive it was the way the water temp was being taken, even though there was a perfectly good sensor in the block.....Why would this be here, and please tell me it was not a Chevy idea....

That is a vacuum operated shut off valve, used with air conditioning to cool better.
