bore or not to bore?
My 402BB has 66,000 origional miles and I had the block and all of the clearences checked and the machinist said I can use all standard bearings and rings,etc. and there was hardly any wear on the engine. The bearings were in unbelievable condition. I've talked with a couple of other mechanics and they said it should have been bored out just to make sure everything was done right. Do I need to have it bored or not? Thank you everyone

If everything is to spec, I personally would not bore the block. No sense in boring if you do not have to.

A quick hone job for the crosshatch pattern and go.If you bore it it will need pistons and rings in the new size.Also you will lose one more rebuild the block would be capable of.

Not with only 66k, if the cylinders measure OK, just hone and ring it. Bore it next time.

I forgot to ask, Should I buy new pistons and rings or just rings and use the origional pistons? Thank you

The truck is having a ground up restoration done and it had a leaking rear main and found out it had 1 bad intake valve , but that was all. What about changing the pistons?

Old pistons--new rings. Make SURE you have the cylinders honed! Sounds like you lucked out.
