Which transmissions do I have?

See the two attached pics. My red 67 has one tranny & my green 67 has another. Both came with the big (11") clutch, coil rear end & helper leafs. In my 67 overhaul manual, only the first tranny is diagramed. Which is which? Which is better? Did someone swap out the factory tranny for another? The first pic is in the red 67 & its the one in the overhaul manual. What about the second pic? Thanks to all for your help.

in my '69 service manual, it lists two different three speeds...the SM326 and SM330. other than that, I don't know the difference.

I would think the SM330 is stronger, as it never had O/D (the SM326 did), plus the SM330 was the only 3 spd used in 4x4 applications.

Count the bolts on the shift fork cover of each. The pre-69 tranny which would have been installed in both trucks from the factory has 4 bolts on the cover. It is a non-synchro'd 3 speed and is shorter thant the 69-up one. The 69-up 3 speed tranny will have 7 bolts on the cover and is syncho'd. It also has a much longer tailshaft.

If your red one has 4 bolts and your green one 7, someone swapped in the later style tranny. I prefer the later style simply because you can shift into first without grinding the gears.
