To Posi or To Lock?

Hi,

I am at a cross between Posi or Locker. I am not a hardcore 8foot RockCrawler just a weekend warrior that likes to go play in mud when I can find it or go on bumpy trails with inclines and declines of about 45 to 60 degrees up or down. What would you recommend, Posi or Locker?

it sounds like you would only need a posi...but then again, if you were to buy either brand new, you will find the prices for both equally disgusting.

Get a tight posi, such as a powr-loc from dana. What rear axle do you have, this could determine what you get.

the rear has a gm 12bolt, the front a 10. I was thinking about getting posi up front because thats where all the weight is. Am I wrong to think this way?

someone at work today mentioned a spool, is that a different kind of locker? They said they were like 200$, and it sounded like a locker limited slip.

For the street you would not want a spool. It basically locks the two axles together and both rear tires turn at the same speed all the time, even in a turn and something has to give as the outside tire wants to turn faster than the inside tire. So either a tire chirps or something brakes!

I have a neighbor who runs a trac-loc by dana in the front of his dana 44 and a detroit in the rear. He likes it. The trac-loc is a limited slip and the detroit is a locker.

i have a detroit locker in a HO52 that i'm going to run when i get my truck back together, and I want a posi of some sort in the dana 60...new power locks are too expensive, so i will probably have to buy a used dana 60 powerlock (30 spline) and use side gears from a dana 70 power lock (35 spline). there were a couple of guys over at pirate4x4 who have done this.

i wouldnt even consider dumping money into that 12 bolt if you really need a traction device. buy a 14FF, and put a detroit in it.
