Anybody know what kind of sub box will fit in my truck?
I would like to get a dual 10" sub box or 12" box for my 85 truck, it will probably have blazer buckets in it, so that should give me some more room, its currently pushed all the way forward to clear some 6x9" speaker boxes. I may be willing to go with one good 10" that can hit hard, but we all know 2 is better than 1 I think 10" would be ideal, not sure what kind i'm going to get yet though, or what kind of amp, or where the amp will go.

I think to get the best fit, it would have to be a custom box. What I have been wanting to try or see is a box that uses no back. In other words, you have the sides, top and bottom, and front, but for the back it uses the cab wall. I've heard of this being done in the past. I'm not sure how much resonance it would create, probably a good bit. I'm thinking if you were to dynamat the cab wall and do this it just may work. JMO

I have a sort of triangular shaped (from the side) box that sits behind the seats. It holds 2 12" subs and sounds pretty darn good for such a small enclosure.

I already have the seat all the way forward and it doesn't bother me. So I should have room for some aftermarket truck boxes back there I think. I have two 6x9 boxes laying on their back right now, need to hookup another set of speakers but want to wait till I get some kick panel enclosers for some 5 1/4's or something.
My CD-Player doesnt have a Sub preout but has front and rear pre-outs, will that work for the amp as long as I have a crossover adjustment on the amp? Its a Sony Xplod CA600X. And can anyone tell me what brand subs are a good bang for the buck? Will also want a decent amp but am not looking to spend tons of cash, just want some decent sounding subs.

I'm putting buckets out of a blazer in mine, will that give me some extra room behind them? Will be using the blazer console as well.

I seriously have no idea, they (and some ****ty wood trim in the cab) were in the truck when I bought it and it (and the wood trim) all said "custom trucks of texas"and had the state of texas outline engraved on it.
They had some kind of velours cloth on them, here's a pic of the ghastly look of the interior when I bought it Oh the ugly wood armrest that you see in the top pic are gone too, just had them there temporarily until the leather shop had the new ones finished |

They are custom seats amde for C10s because they fit the stock mounting pattern to a tee. I saw some seats not too long ago that were almost identical, jsut a little more modern. Same setup with 1 folding bench that has 2 cup holders and a storage compartment, as well as a storage compartment under the middle seat cushion. The bench is pretty old because the console has slots to hold 8 track tapes . I had it reupholstered and lots of foam added.
I'll see if I can find that page that had those benches. |

So a single 12" kicker should do me good huh? Are they easy to make a custom encosure for since their square? And would it be best with a ported or sealed enclosure? Doing a ported box is going to take some research to get it right if I do it myself.
EDIT: Holy crap those things are expensive! 400 bucks for a 12" solo-baric, bout 500 with an enclosure then I still need an AMP. Is it worth that much money?

The L7 square is gunna run you some money. And you will need alot of amp, but they sound the best thats for sure. Right now I am running a 12in comp vr with a fosgate mono 350 watt amp and it sounds good but I always want more!!!! Ported boxes are the way to go with the squares.

For one sub the amp shouldn't be too bad, but I don't think I really want to spend that kind of cash on one sub, I like good quality but i'm also kinda cheap lol. I think a couple good 10" subs with a good amp will suit me just fine and won't run me as much.

Im only running their top round sub, the comp VR. Im going to L7['s] next though I have their single comp vr12, a 5 channel amp, and component set of 6.5/1" in kick panels and the system just flat out POUNDS. Im not with the L7's yet because the entire cab will need dynomat or somthing to handle those puppys.

I'm actually thinking for right now just going with a single 10" Kicker Comp sub and truck box and a cheap profile 200wattx1 sub amp for now and if I add another sub the amp will handle 320w@2 ohm if I want it to, the 10" kicker tops out at 125watts rms anyway. I'm just looking for something very basic right now and don't need anything fancy really. Don't know how good the Profile amps are but they fit my budget nicely, with wiring kit, sub, box, and amp i'm looking at 250 dollars from Crutchfield. Which will easily fit my budget and will work fine for me I think for now.

Look on ebay. I had found (2) brand new 12's shipped for $115. They were not the comp vr's jsut the comps. Here's a link to some 10's.

hmm, if I go ebay then I could get 2 10" Kicker Comps, dual 10" truck enclosure, and a kicker mono amp all for about 270 bucks.
