Well ........ It looks like either the solenoid is shorter than normal, or the motor is longer than normal. Or both.

I give up lol. Are you hinting toward the bolt pattern? Or the hole in the bell housing of the starter?

I just noticed the body of the starter looks a little like a bottle.

Come on guys... It has nothing to do with where its made.. Theres a certain GM part on there that you dont typically find on most starters, especially on the rounded line trucks..

It has a terminal on the solenoid, that they stopped using when they went to HEI?

I would say its the longer bolt that goes from the solenoid to the nose of the starter. Which identifies it as a high torque starter.Correct? Maybe?

Ok we give up. How about a hint? How about just tell us why it's special.

This is NOT my starter-

is it the stud mounted on the starter itself? Also, hard to tell in the pic, but the solonoid cap appears to be black...most were brown. I have heard that different colored caps meant different things...maybe black is a higher torque rating?

Either way, why not just tell us. After all, its only a starter.

It has a cast iron nose cone I had this custom built to cure my starter shimming / gear mesh problems.. the cast iron nose cones from the late 60's or so were cut a little differently and cure the problem of the crappily machined engines of the '70s like my small block 400...

If it is installed in your truck ...I don't see any starter bolts or wires atached to the solenoid.. other han that mine are silver in color rather than brass colored and brown! Gotta look again!!!
