PCV Air/Oil Separator Install Project - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

In addition to my manifold project this weekend I am installing an air/oil separator inline between my PCV valve and carburetor. I did a lot of research on the net and discovered that they are pretty popular and come stock on some cars such as Volvos. My PCV valve has been sucking some oil, through the baffles, and the oil ultimately makes its way through the intake system, even though I have baffles installed in the valve covers. My intake runners were oily and the back side of the intake valves on my new heads were all goopy (could be valve seals but they are new ???) Below is a picture of the separator. It is made by a company called Greddy out of California. It is the only air/oil separator that I have found for aftermarket automotive use. I found several others made for piston driven small aircraft.

ONCE YOU HAVE THAT MOUNTED IS THERE AN EASY WAY TO CLEAN IT OUT?
IS THERE A SCREEN INSIDE OR JUST BAFFLES?
IF YA DONT MIND WHAT WAS THE COST?

The mounting holes are on the back. There are three holes on the side as seen in the picture. One is for a drain plus (it came in the box) and the other two holes hold a clear tube that indicates how much oil has been trapped. Ironically it is hollow inside. When the air makes a sharp turn the oil goes down into the cavity due to it's weight. I first learned about them through some Corvette on-line forums where owners were talking about them quite a bit. I have seen many designs. Some people build their own, some pack them with material. I will see how this design performs and let everyone know. It sells for roughly $85 on various sites throughout the net. I bought directly from Greddy for $99. Below are some sites about separators. The last one is the Greddy site.

The pcv valve couldn't suck oil past the valves unless the guide & seals were worn. Suspect your separator will end up with the same gook.

Hey, one more question. Are those barb fittings removable? Possibly pipe thread holes? It looks like they are... I'd like to run AN line if I decide to get it.

The barb fittings are removable. However, I believe that they are metric. They come with either 9mm or 15mm barbs. I chose the 9mm barb because it is closest to the size 6 braided Russell fuel line that I use for my PCV. Greddy sells these things mostly to people with hopped up imports. Greddy specializes in stuff for Hondas and such.
