The Good News: I just bought a beautiful '69 GMC. Except for the cab corners, the body is great

The Bad News: I've been working on a '68 C-10 for a number of years. My dad bought this truck a few years after I was born, so I've grown up with it - I even learned how to drive in this truck. I've repainted the frame with POR-15 and installed a front end from an '84. Other than that I've restored a number of smaller parts, all of which will transfer to the '69.

The cab of the '68 is bad. All the typical stuff for our trucks needs to be done: both cab corners, both sets of rockers, driver's side cab floor and cowl panel, front and rear cab mounts, and there is a dent on the roof - right on the seam - where a tree fell on it 20 years ago. The driver side rear piller is also a bondo-mess after an accident many years ago.

I want to garage the '69, so I have to move the '68 out. My wife has "issues" with truck parts in the yard so I can't put it in the back yard. I have another garage that is housing a wood-floor box that I picked-up from the wrecker and all the kid's bikes.

Anyway...do you think the '68 is too far gone to bother, or would you try to store it somewhere? I'm not a welder, so I'm looking at big money to fix the cab. But still...I hate to part with it.

combine the two! Use the best parts from the two to make one good truck, that way you have a bit of both in one, and are actually using both of the trucks, so the wife can't complain too much

After you've got all the junker parts on the old one, sell it / take it to the wreckers, and you're well on you way, and you don't have to worry about getting rid of the truck with the sentimental value, as it'll still have many components from your dad's truck still in it, including the most important part of all -- the frame

Sell the '76, drive the '69 and continue to restore the '68. Just buy a new cab for it. You should be able to get a rust free cab for about $500 USD and shipping should not be more than about $400 USD. Good luck...post some pics of that '69!

I think Russel has a really good idea. I don't know if you and your dad worked on the truck together but if so that truck may be something you desire to have back someday . I know I had some memories of something as simple as using the glove box door to sit drinks on. I didn't work on it with him but I spent years inside of it. He had a 70 blazer. My dad passed away and after that his things became treasures. I don't need the whole blazer to keep those memories close to me but I have pieces of it here and there that I will add to truck.

Yeah, not a GM, but I love it. 1969 GMC 32,000 - fix, drive, relax, fix... 2019 BMW R1250 GSA - Yahoooooooo 1979 Honda GL 1000 - retro touring at its best. Past: '05 Sierra 4x4 - Had 270,000 KM and running well when it was written-off by a stop sign runner. '94 F-150 from the "F word" company. I'll admit it...good truck. Sold what was left of it for $800 to a guy who came to pick it up at 11:00 PM with cash in hand. Hmm. '79 Sierra Grande (Black) organ donor - perfect rebuildable 4-bolt 350 and a good TH350. '76 Sierra Grande (Orange) - hate isn't too strong a word. Kid who bought it turned it into a hot rod. '68 C-10 R.I.P. - Dad's old truck...too far gone to resurrect. '59 C-50 - with hoist. Truck is gone, wife isn't. Nuff said.
