Yeah, so I caught my truck on fire today...
So I need to pass emissions, so last time I drove my truck and parked it I lowered the idle and leaned it out, I think. I got it out this morning to install an EGR valve and retard the timing so I could pass emissions this morning. I could barely get the truck to fire up and wouldn't idle. It would only stay running if I had it sitting at around 2400 rpms. I turned the idle way up, it still would idle. I readjusted the needle and seat assembly screws, what I had originally adjusted. Fired her up again. Then I had gasoline literally shooting out of the top of the carb. I don't know what it is called, but the tube that is angled cut. I shut off the truck and cleaned out the carb with carb cleaner and readjusted the needle and seat. I fired her up and ran it at an 2400 rpm speed again, and then boom, when not really boom, but there were flames shooting out of the hood. I shut off the truck and hosed it off. Luckely I didn't seem to do too much damage. I removed the carb and drained the water and gasoline out. Now I need to adjust it again. If I but smaller needle and seats from summit, ie .097 or.110, would it lean it out? Also why was gas coming out that tube? Am I safe to reinstall the carb and try to fire it over again?

The angle cut tubes are your float vents, if gas comes out your float needle isn't seating

I went and bought a book on Holley carbs, manifold, and fuel injection so hopefully will get things squared away today. I just love going into these nice bookstores with all the yuppies drinking their coffee while I am in my greasy ripped carhartts. I just love the looks.
