250 vs. 292 and other questions

First, I was wondering if a 292 is a direct bolt in replacement for a 250? Also, do the oil pans swap over? The reason I ask is that I might be able to pick up a 292 cheap. This guy was having an old orange truck of his towed away when the motor dropped right out onto the street! Said the oil pan and exhaust was a bit dented up, but it was still in pretty good shape and was running when he parked it a couple months ago. Oh yeah, I'm going to be getting headers and a 4bbl intake for the 250 this summer and was wondering if those parts would swap over as well. I don't know what brand they are, but the headers are shorties that were originally on a 250 in an omega.

Also, what is the ratio of 67 C10's made vs. 68 C10's made? I see a LOT more big window 68's than I do 67's both on this board and just from looking around.

Total production numbers, including 1/2 ton through one ton, panels and burbs, 2 wheel drive and 4X4...
1967. 526776 units...
1968, 521486 units.
As for your 250 verses 292 question, I think the only major issue on the engine swap is one motor tower, the 292 has stagered mounts and one of them is a small block tower.
No clue on the oil pan, but I would think they don't match up. (just a guess though)

The pan should be no problem. The headers and manifold should work too. Chris

The L6 230/250 oil pan would fit on the 292 if you also swapped out the shorter oil pick-up, however that would be defeating the purpose of the 292's having a 6 quart oil pan. It's a bigger engine and has a bigger oil demand. Get the 292, then hunt for an un-fragged oil pan. It'll be much happier.
The 4Bbl intakes [Offy or Clifford] will fit on either L6. Remember the head casting is the same -- only different spring values and valve sizes make them different. As far as the headers, that's a good question? The block of the 292 is 1.75" taller than the 250 block. It looks like Clifford lists the same part no. headers for both 250s and 292s but they list them separately. Go figure?!
Try:

Hope this helps.

I've got a set of 63-81 chevy truck Dynamax I6 headers on a truck that was a 250 switched to a 292 and they fit both without problems. If interested i have an extra new set of Dynamax headers and an Offy 4BBL intake for sale for 250.00 + shipping. Intake was used 2 weeks to break in the motor.

Excellent book. I met Leo at a swapmeet in Daytona a couple years ago. Nice guy. Only drawback is the book gets you asking more questions than there are answers for.
