Dash swap

My 70 SWB has the dash with only a speedometer, fuel guage, and idiot lights. I have a complete dash with all of the iinstruments on the bottom. What do I have to do to swap the two?

if you have the whole wiring harness just swap the two wiring harnesses with the dash

What ever you do, don't try to just swap the insterment panels without redoing the harness. (either by swapping the wires or swapping the harnesses out)
I did this when I got my first truck, and my buddy laughed so hard he almost puked.
The dash lights won't work properly, and the needle on the fuel guage will spin about 6 or 7 laps all the way around untill it stops with a puff of smoke.
I didn't find it as amusing as my buddy did.

Wiring harness must be changed as mentioned. Should be able to get one at local salvage yard for 15 bucks or less.
Not hard to do at all.

rickh, you don't have to swap out the whole harness, there are a few wires that need swapped around on the plug, and a couple other small chainges, but you can retain the stock harness...just a few mods.

Easier to explain by changing harness than step by step modification of existing.

I did this swap on mine and followed the instructions per GMC Pauls page. It was easy. You need to swap out the temp sensor also. The idiot light kind is different than the temperature gauge kind. They are direct swaps. You'll need a hard line for the oil pressure gauge it is strictly mechanical.
