Just an idea about posting

OK. See what everyone thinks about this idea.

I read all these threads many times. Most everyone posts to them and everytime they do, they include their sigs, in every post they make in the same thread. Some of the sigs are extremely long. I feel like including your sig once per thread is plenty. Including your sig every time sure does make the threads long.

If you notice, when you reply to a post, it has a option to include your sig. Just unchecking this option after making the first reply will help shorten everything up some.

Just an idea of mine. I thought this would help. Besides, I don't see the need to read some of these things. Some folks include their life history in their sigs.

OK. I know what everyone is thinking. I'm picking at straws again. I guess I'm getting too lazy to scroll down 2 miles to read the last reply on a page. :p

lol Mike, I have to agree with you yeah you can say well don't like it dont read.. but with us having the option to include it or not in a reply, would cut down on alot of teh clutter within the threads. Either way life goes on but I have to agree with you .

Ryan,

I guess this is a pet pieve of mine. It gets ridiculous to me to read someones reply of three words and their sig is 4" long going down the page. This by itself is bad enough, but to put this extremely long sig in every post you make, in the same thread is crazy.

Someone say Food? hahaha, Yeah, on all the other forums I go to, I only put my sig once per thread. I didn't know I could select/deselect my sig on this forum, just seen that down there, hahaha.
BTW: This is my first sig showing on this post

Not trying to get anyone upset here. Just trying to make a point I guess.

Tim,

your sig is a prime example of what I consider a little extreme. Let's take a vote. Who here cares that Tim owns a Saturn? More importantly, who cares what size engine, hp and tq it has and what it weighs? What I'm trying to say is, what does this have to do with posting in a truck forum? Besides this, you could have them listed side by side, instead of taking up 4" of space.

Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox now. Back to your regular programming.

I agree Mike, there is no need to have long sigs. If your sig is short enough, I don't see it being a problem, but when your sig is usually longer than your replies or post...then it is time for a change.

I'm another vote for minimizing the amount of "stuff" in your sig.

Takes up bandwidth, too: not much, but when you have hundreds of posts, all with an extra couple of KB, well ....

yep... last week or so there was someone with lyrics to a song in their sig. I don't remember who nor am I tryin to start **** with them. I'm bot tryin to sound rude or hateful, but if I want the lyrics I'll go to lyrics.com . I like to check out the websites within the sigs etc, there just should be a happy medium somewhere.

I've added a limit on the signatures, but it won't work retroactively... so any long signaturess will be gone when they try to re edit them, but until then we're stuck with the long annoying ones unless I manually edit every down to size...

I totally agree with Mike on this. You probably haven't noticed, but I already practice what you are suggesting. We started this on a www.nhtoc.com which is a national Harley truck owners site that I moderate on.

When the site first went on line a few of the original members agreed it was a good practice and suggested it from the beginning. It has been that way every since.

Hey at least they don't allow sigs with pics here. That always gets WAY out of hand. It's especially hard for the dial up users....

I do too Ken.

My first post/reply has my sig, which isn't much to begin with. Then from there on out, I either just put my name or nothing.
