Converting from points to Electric.
When converting to electronic ignition on a 65, how do I wire up the dist and starter???
On my freinds 65 he has a plug with two wires on the pasenger side firewall that lead into the starter, one is for the right soleniod terminal, it is black on his truc and then there is a yellow one. How do I wire it up to work. Truck is timed and ready to crank but it just won't. Also the alternator is wired up to bypass the voltage regulator due to an internal one. one wire from the plug (white) is hooked up to the plug in back of the alt. and then the other one (red) runs into the cab and into the Ign. Unfused terminal. I dont know why its like this...but it is. So short...HOW DO I WIRE UP AN ELECTRIC DIST AND ALTERNATOR ON A 65!!!

PS
Here is the way I have it set up Black wire from plug on fire wall is on the Right Solenoid terminal (+). the yellow wire from the plug is on the left Solenoid terminal (-). This yellow wire also leads back up from the starter to were the Coil was on the Points Dist. I don't need it now cause it has HEI, what do I do with this free hanging yellow wire. I spliced the Pink Ign. wire on the ignition switch and ran a wire from that into the BAT. terminal on the HEI. This is the way my 68 is wired up and it works. Why is it not working on the 65???? HEEEELP!!!!

First things first is it not cranking or not firing up?
The basics, on the back of the solenoid there are the battery and two terminals(R) and (S),the (R) is a bypass for the + coil to give it 12v during cranking( this is no longer needed for HEI,the (S) is from the start wire from the key switch The other wire from the + side of the coil is a resistered (key on ignition wire) the resister will have to be removed, for the HEI needs full 12v,or run a key on 12v to HEI. The alt should be similar to this. |
