it's finally begun...
After two or three years of talking and thinking about restoring my truck, I finally decided to get off my lazy ass and do something about it. I just ordered new cab/rad/bed mounts and rear suspension bushings from GMC Pauls, a front sway bar from Early Classic, complete power front disc/suspension upgrade/drop kit from Classic Performance, and frame paint. Teardown will probably begin this week or next. I plan to paint and rustproof the frame and totally restore the underbody components. Then I can put in my new wiring harness when putting it all back together. After this is done, I can attempt to tackle paint. Maybe next year.
I'm pretty stoked right now. I can't wait to get started. John

Take pictures...lots of them. A digi cam would be a great investment if you don't own one...nothing special, just make sure it has a flash.
Also, tons of zip lock baggies and a magic marker. Every group of bolts in a seprate bag, labeled with clear directions as to where they go. ("Bolts for front left fender" for example) You may know where EVERYTHIGN goes right now, but you'll forget in a few months, let alone a few years. |

Thanks guys.
It does need it, believe me. You probably didn't look underneath when you came here, but the frame that was blasted to bare metal by the New Mexico sun and sand has taken on a nice accumulation of surface rust from the wonderful Florida humidity. And I do have a digicam. I used it for a while, but it must not have been compatible with the old puter, and before we got the new one, the battery in the camera died. I'll try to get it running again. Thanks again for all the support! John (P.S. Sway bar should be in today, as well as control arm bushings. I love the UPS man.)(or woman)
