Smelly Truck?
 I have been trying to get rid of this rich gas smell for about 3 months now. I had my holley rebuilt thought that was the reason, got just a little better but not much, put new mufflers no diiference. Do any one have the same problem I've been contemplating getting the tank out of the truck and moving it to the back. Can you guys give any suggestions to what it could be because I hate smelling like I've been standing in front of the exhuast pipe all day, when in fact I just drove to the store and back. Things to check, rubber boot, vented cap, leaking sending unit,and in the later models had a in cab vent in the passenger rear cab post

I got rid of the gas smell when I went to the Blazer tank under the bed.

Are you talking about a raw gas smell or a partially burned gas smell? (Like with a stuck choke).

More or less raw gas smell, I had been thinking it was something maybe to due with the tank inside of the truck.

I had a similar problem that went away when I replaced the fuel sending unit's gasket.

I had that same problem and come to find out my gas cap was bad and everytime i turned right a little gas would spash out......that was my smell....

Worst culprit seems to be that gas cap. Especially if it gets better with windows up. I'm told it was a "design flaw". Best cure- move that gas on back!

Just buy a new cap(vented for the earlier years), neck grommet, and sending unit gasket. That covers everything except bad solder joint on the neck (which is somewhat prone to leakage, but repairable). To check the neck joint, run your tank low on gas, seal up the top with duct tape, pinch off the rubber fuel line at the pump(if that worries you, I didn't), let her sit in the sun for a little while, then use soapy water, around the neck and look for bubbles.

Also-check/replace the rubber fuel lines from the tank to the hard lines.

What's the best way to go? Poly, Alum. or orginal blazer tank out of 69-72 blazer.

Just don't go Poly. They change shape, expand, contract, etc...
Use a METAL TANK!

Fuel cell with safety foam. If mine ever goes bad I may get a fuel cell that holds 30 gallons if it will fit somewhere on the truck.

I just replaced the rubber gasket for the sending unit when I smelled of gas - fixed it right up and I found my thinking to be much more clear headed when I was breathing pure oxygen instead of a rich mix. Cost $2 and 10 minutes. I will eventually move the tank out but a $2 quick fix is so easy!!
