never an uneventful drive... eh?.... ;)

drove an hour south to pick up some wheels for fine69.....
decided to take my baby (the truck) to stretch her legs....
1/2 way back, the clutch fan decided to pierce my upper radiator hose....
i must have chosen the wrong hose the last time i reinstalled it (in november)...
had to stop at the immediate gas station, and duct tape up the upper hose, refill with antifreeze (which i just HAPPEN to have in the cab with me), and limp on home for an immediate repair....

here are pics...

here is a before shot..... (before the damage occurred)

here are some shots with the DUCT TAPE repair..... i had to use the tape to also try and hold the hose out of the path of the fan for the remainder of the drive.... (i was still 30 mins from home)....

GOD BLESS DUCT TAPE!!!!

and finally, here is the new hose, after i bought the CORRECT one (i guess one is for AC and one is without AC, yet the parts store neglected to ask me that, of course)....

looks great, and fits MUCH better.....

I always carry an extra set of hoses in my truck. I guess that would not help though, if it was the wrong hose...

Mmmm... duct tape...

Just throw some bailing wire in the back, and then you'd be ready for anything!

And to think my wife thought the roll of duct tape I got her for her birthday was a bad present. Wait til I show her this thread, then she'll realize that it was a thoughtful gift!

That is some really good info right there! Thanks!! I am running a long water pump set-up on my engine, and the factory V-8 fan shroud rubs on the fan. SO I am Shroudless.

That's almost as good as my bungie cord throttle return spring as a road side repair I did once.
Wrapped one end around the distributor a few times, then hooked it to the carb.

what are you talkin about? i may have originally had a six cyl setup, but i switched to a 350, which may not be stock for 1968, but it IS stock for 1970! the only NON stock thing showin there is
1. a long water pump
2. a clutch fan
3. a cheesy aircleaner
4. HEI
and i dont think any of these affect the location of the upper radiator hose!

'nuff said!
thanks for all the compliments, boyz!

Ah a woman with talent, being you clipped the upper hose I think I might check the motor mounts to make sure your engine didn't lift and catch the fan. I also agree with the engine shroud idea posted earlier.
