Full floating axle wheel bearings

I am almost done with the brake swap on my 71 K20. Do I need to pack the wheel bearings in the drum/hub with grease? I believe they get lubricated with gear oil via the differential and axle tube as there is no seal in the axle tube and they are splash oiled with the oil slingers...Thanks...Tom.

lube

I have heard that from other people as well concerning greasing the bearings. They are oil bath bearings and hence do not require grease. I usually make it a point to jack up one side at a time and wait, to make sure gear oil gets down to the end of the tube and submerge the bearings prior to take off. If i was putting a vehicle in storage for an extended period of time it would be a good idea to pack em with grease though. Good point to bring up.

Thanks Bruce, that's what I thought. I went ahead and soaked the bearings in gear oil and "injected" more gear oil into the hub recess.
