Not happy with weekend progress

This was to be the FINAL coating of the suede black paint. i ran out of paint last weekend so I re-ordered enough to re shoot the hood and lay down a nice even coat over the rest of the body. I just came back from the shop where the paint has been curing for the past 7 hours ( and this stuff sets up in 30 minutes) to find this. DOES THIS LOOK LIKE SUEDE TO YOU???
Oh man am I pissed. The totally mixed the wrong shade of black. Now I gotta go after the body shop, wetsand the entire truck and re shoot after we get the CORRECT paint mix.

I sure feel for you. It seams like the setbacks are one after another with these projects. It will be that much more worth it when it finally gets done and you can drive it down the road with pride.

It certainly does suck, I can relate from the work I just did on mine, getting wrong parts or bad parts and turning around and having to wait some more. Question though, This paint is a non-gloss non -clear, basically paint/primer and all you did was shoot the hood with this last coat, can't you just wet sand the hood and reshoot it? I am no paint expert and won't ever confess to be one. As I stated in another post I hate body and especially paint work.

It's a matte finish paint. We have to order it in from Winnipeg so it's a few days..this thing already has 8 coats on it to try to get it to work out right... we finally got it figured out and they gave the wrong paint. Yeah we have to wetsand the entire truck and shoot the proper paint cause we shot the whole truck with this wrong fricken paint! ARGH We wanted this to be the last coat so we could finish the interior and get it running...but it's one damn thing after another..it's just frustrating!

Hey now, it will all be okay. Set-backs are a part of life...hell, look at my life, lol All I can do is laugh to keep myself from crying, I had to leave my C-30 in Memphis because the body man is slower than molasses in mid-January, he wants to take shortcuts on my project, and has his hand out for money every step of the way. Keep the '58 and show us all how it's done

I can certainly understand, I was about to put my truck up for another year, way to much money constantly going in, excessive waiting for parts, bad parts, wrong parts. It get down right frustrating, my truck is running but not where I had wanted it at this time, I was planning on having mine on the road the beginning of April, and I cant truely dive it till I get replacement control arms so I can get it aligned. Don't give up, just step back take a deep breath, have a beer, forget about the truck for a few days and tackle it again.

Thanks Dtilly, I'm trying to remain positive...but I'm running out!... I know you've been thru hell and back... our little set backs are a meer speedbump. I prolly wouldn't sell the 58...but I really wish things would work out for us just once. All I gotta say...is after all this work at the paint and body...it better run like the fkin WIND with mininal problems!!!!

One thing you might try before you reshoot is to scuff it with a 3m abrasive pad. You can get pretty good consistent results in a mat finish with one, since you have to scuff it any way it may be worht a shot. Maybe even a scuff and light buff will give you the suede you are looking for.

Tim it is time to bite the bullet and get someone (a painter) to shoot it for you. If you had you wouldn't be at this stage right now. Just roll it down to Wayne's shop, there are lots of painters around here who will do it for a small fee. If you do decide to go ahead and paint it yourself again. Good luck and I hope it turns out for ya this time bud. Oh yeah you owe me 10 bucks

tim and shawna! tell me about it, i got my truck back from the paint booth and it looked like shi t ... had to wait a couple weeks for them to get it back in and re do it, finally got it back and now im still waiting for my damn tailgate that they havent started, and also my carpet and bumpers are back ordered, i want this thing insured for the may long weekend, its goign to be tight...and then tonight on the way home from my ball game i got a fukin speeding ticket for 200 bucks, im so damn mad

It doesn't look to bad except this is not the color I want on this truck. If you look closely you will notice that the roof is flat black and the rest of the truck is in gloss black

I was wondering if you plan on bringing that truck down to the board meet in July? Funny thing, my C-30 looked similar to that when I left Memphis, except you have a bed (partial) on the truck

We have to take the 95 Don. I wouldn't trust his truck ( no offence darling) to go the 52 hours of driving there and back. Plus we have the rugrats to take with us as well.

This is one project I refuse to give up on. I have put to much time, money and effort into building this truck. It will be done right and I will be the one painting it again. This truck is BUILT NOT BOUGHT

yeah it sets me back a bit. I think I'm still gonna go ahead and work on getting the beast running and driving this week. We have a long weekend coming up and a few days so I should be able to get some work done then. I was just hoping this would be the final black coat and I could feel good about getting it done, But ah well, it's all in the learning experience I guess Chalk it up to knowledge
