i heard the WORST sound today

i pull on the off ramp to get to my house a little bit ago. there are about 3 other cars infront of me waiting to turn left or right. after about 30 seconds of no cars coming either direction i notice that we arent moving. after another minute or so the car in front of me pull to the side of the road and passes teh other cars in front of me to get on the road.

i pull off to the side of the road to see if i can help the stuck people. it was an early 80's lwb(so of course i had to help a fellow owner). it seems to have died and they cant get it started. i jump in and floor the gas while cranking it. it starts up after about 5 seconds of cranking and then i hear it...

the loudest knocking i've ever heard. it idled fine in park but would die in gear. i asked them if they had checked the oil and they said(yeah, my dad filled everything up earlier) it was a young girl and her boyfriend(in the truck and a little white car, so they still had a ride).

they finally get it to drive a little and pull it off to a side road and park it. after that i left hoping i would never EVER have to hear taht sound from my truck.

THE END

When my 305 died I turned a corner on the way to my gf's house and noticed a lack of power for a second and saw smoke in my mirror, smoke stopped power came back and it started knocking pretty hard. I picked her up anyway an went home with it knocking (5 miles or so). Some how the engine lost all its oil. I had just checked it two days before. I was without my truck for awhile, man did it suck.

Talking about bad sounds. I busted my arse changing the clutch out just to have a nasty squelling sound when I started it up. Man am I pissed. Have to rip it all out again and see what happened. Damn this sucks

Same here. That sound sounds like "383 stroker" to me. It sounds like echo's in my bank account though....

but to the way this truck looked, it probably sounded like junkyard or cheap cheap replacement to them

sounds like to me you were looking at her knockers and then you floored the truck it started up you got your attention back on the truck and you just imagined the knocking sound (since that is what you still had on your mind KNOCKERS) Thats just my opinion.....
