The 69 I had back when I was in school was a short step with a six and three speed and it had a one piece driveshaft.

I have a '68 C/10 stepside with a 292 and 4-speed SM465. It is original with a 1-piece propshaft.

Short wheel base trucks were not uncommon with a one piece shaft, but they did also come with a 2 piece set up.
My rig has a one piece, originally had a 305 v-6 and a TH400..but I know this is not the stock drive shaft...so I guess it don't really matter.
4 foot 10 inches is the perfect drive shaft length for a SWB W/coils, and a small block (correct location) and a TH350 short shaft.

What do you do with the bearing carrier/cross member when converting to a one-piece driveline? Do you cut it out?

Cut/drill/grind off the rivets that hold the carrier bracket to the crossmember. Leave the crossmember as it is a structural member of the frame (notice all the rivets and bracing it has associated with it, not to mention the hangers for the trailing arms on the coil-sprung trucks?)

I have a long bed with the 2 piece drive shaft, I was thinking of converting to the 1 piece to get rid of one more stress point. Will the drive shaft rub anywhere?
