Sounds like you have a stock externally regulated alternator, and it might be getting weak.
Your stereo has a built in protector, if the power level drops off too low, it'll shut off to protect it's self.

I would update to an internally regulated alt and maybe rewire the stereo too. The memory wire on some models is more than just memory and carry most of the power to the head unit. If you were to wire that to the post on the inner fender right by the battery, it'd get all the power it needed.

Memory.
But if your alt isn't putting out enough, then it won't help.

I hate them external voltage regulators. Whether that's the problem or not I would still suggest getting rid of it.
I found a simple wiring diagram on the internet to rewire the altenator for internal, and the altenator was off of a 95 or 98 silverado. High amp, internal voltage regulator, no more problems with dead or overcharged batteries. What could be better?

Can't find the diagram , but Classic Industries sells a Conversion Harness that will let you install single wire Alt .
Part # CT27555 cost is 13.95 .
This is a great mod that also is a must for ,HEI and the Headlight conversion really helps

Good Luck
