Bad news on steel & chrome parts.
We have received notification from all but one supplier of price increases on chrome & steel parts, as a example Goodmark told us by beginning of June they will be sending us a new price catalog and in it every part will see at least a $1.00 increase in price on small parts and parts such as cowl hoods will increase another $50.00 per hood. We are hearing this from every major supplier of steel and chrome parts except for one. The reason for the price increase they state is steel prices have climbed 35-90%, the price of the materials to chrome parts has increased nearly 10 times and shipping rates are on the increase to get the parts to us do to increased fuel costs. So I wanted to let you all know around the beginning of June truck parts will be increasing in cost on most all steel or chrome related parts. So if you plan on ordering from a truck parts retailer any time in the near future don't hesitate to long or your budget might be wrecked with price increases.
Sorry for the bad news but I figured you would all like to know in advance of it happening to hopefully save some money by buying before we all get hit with these price increases. GMCPaul |

got a question
GMCPaul
I was wondering if you could tell me if a 63-66 chevy shortbox frame is the same as a 67-72 frame? I was wondering if they would be close or not. I'm currently trying to build a 68 shortbox but I'm having a lot of trouble finding a frame for my project. Thanks for taking the time to read this. |

Steel prices are getting just plain stupid! I work mostly with A36, AR 400 and AR 500 plate ranging from 1/4" to 1" thick. The prices on these have just went through the roof!! I'm talking increases from $20 per hundred weight before February, and now around $60 or more per hundred weight!
We are the largest user of AR (abrasion resistant) plate in Colorado, according to our supplier. When we found out about the increases from the mills in early February, we went out on a limb and bought EVERY piece of AR 400 and AR 500 plate we could get our hands on. This totaled around 250 sheets of 72" x 96" plate ranging from 1/4" to 1" thick, as well as some 70 sheets of various A36 plate 72" x 120". Needless to say, we spent a couple bucks!! But....we are still building parts from steel that is in our stock, that we bought at the "normal" price, and still making money at our old prices. Most other AR plate users in Colorado, IF they can get the plate within 4 to 6 months, are paying the unreal prices for it! And in turn, charging highly inflated prices to cover the raised price of the steel they buy. Heck, even the recyclers are now buying our SLAG for scrap!!!! We are starting to see the prices come down a little, but I am sure places like Goodmark and others are in the same boat most others are in...they HAD to buy steel at the increased prices, and in order to continue to make a profit, must increase their prices for a time to make up the difference.

Yeah, we can thank China for the large increase...they have been buying up all the scrap metal from any one who has it. Sounds like they are in short supply, hopefully this does not get worse, because the company that I work for will be paying out the nose for new molds. Some of our steel molds (some 80,000 lbs each) will cost us an arm and a leg.
