Fuel tank maintenance
I am going to pull the interior soon and ned to order the right stuff so I have it when I start (takes 2-4 weeks to get parts here).
Other than the fuel tank grommet, what other rubber parts should I replace on the tank? |

If you can find it, replace the O-ring on the sendeing unit.
If you have a 71/72, I'd also replace the hoses going up into the pillar on the passenger side too. Pulling the tank and having it steam cleaned for a few hrs would be a real good idea since you'll have it out. Inspect the filler neck real close for leaks too, that is a common place since it feels natural to lean on the pump handle at the fillin station. |

if you're going to have the thing pretty well apart i'd have the tank boiled and pressure tested at the local radiator shop

Boiling out doens't do much more than steam cleaning it, and it costs more since it'll take up the whole tank. (We have an in-house rad shop at work)

or don't bother to boil it out and leave all 35years of crap and scale in there so it will cause problems down the road
