have any of you done it. if so did you buy a kit or make your own. im thinking about building my own. anyone have a good starting point...drawings sketches measurements or pictures. i have access to steel decent welding skills and will have lots of time when i get laid off pretty soon.

any help would be appreciated

I'm using a Off Road Design Shackle Flip, not installed yet so I can't comment on the install. I like to build things myself as much as possible, but when it comes to suspension and brakes I prefer the known and tested. I looked at using a stock hanger from a GM truck but I wasn't sure what kind of lift I'd end up with. So far ORD has been great on support.

you can cut a slot in your old rear bracket and just flip the shackle, it doesnt look strong enough to me, and doesnt look like it would allow enough flex. you can also take a front spring mount (front mount on the rear suspension) and mount it at the rear of the rear suspension. or you could go with ORD.... there is another maker of shackle flip kits, but last i heard he was extremely backed up and having problems. Check coloradok5.com for more info on this.

The only draw back to the shackle flip is it moves your axle forward a little more in the wheel well. 67-72 already sit kind of forward in the wheel well without that.

if worried about where tire sits in wheelwell someone showed me the link below which is what i got that allows you too change the offset.

that looks alot easier than cutting and welding a bunch of stuff up. all you had to buy is bolts? my truck is a 79 1/2 ton [10 front 12 rear] the axles im going to use are 77 3/4 ton [d44 front 14 rear] when i take out teh axles on the 77 will those front shackles work or will i need to have 1/2 ton shackles.
basically are 1/2 and 3/4 different. id like to combine the 2 trucks together to make one that i can beat on a little without destroying to much stuff

im no master fabricator but that zero rate thing looks like something that couldbe made pretty easy with just a drill and a tape measure. ill make one if i need to move the axle.

Pretty much butted it against my trailer hitch..
I believe I used 2 or 1 existing holes on the frame from where the old perch was..

Took a day to install

this is a thread i had when I was selling some perches.
I still have them for sale..
The pics don't come up sice the rebuild of this site. But i could probably get some..

More/Less Mark the center of the top shackle mount on the old one, on the frame. C-clamp the new one in place at the center of it. Install springs, Axle, etc. so the weight of the truck is on it. Check shackle angle before permently mounting it.

pretty much any of the shackle flips you use will give you about 4in of lift..

Can I ask, why the intrest to put on a 2wd??

i believe that ORD offers a 2 or 2.5" lift and a 4" lift. you might look into it.

Ecobit Made a deal that bolted to the bottom of your spring hanger and would give you about 5in of lift seeing how Chevys have the saggy butt going on it makes sence for add one inch.
All you did was bolt his deal in place and swapped the shackels and you were done.

But he is the one that went out of business. which is to bad from what I heard it worked quite good.

Cethern __________________ 72 K5 that needs lots of parts.. 71 GMC 3/4 4x4 That doesn't need much which is a good thing I don't think I could aford another money pit...
