It's not that difficult. There have been several very good posts on the message board that can get you through it. I tried a search but didn't find the thread I was after. If you have a shop manual it has a pretty good description of the teardown and assembly. Try a search or post on the message board.

The lower bearing is available from GM and aftermarket. The two upper bearings are available aftermarket. You will need a puller and some basic hand tools as a minimum. The assembly manual list some specialty tools that you can get from a tool or auto supply, but if you are creative you can probably make them yourself.

Here's some pics I took and posted a while back, hope this helps. The original post seems to have flown the coop?

Here is the diagram from the service manual.
It also has instructions on how to take it apart. Shawn

Btnkbndt,
Nice pictures and instructions. That should be put into the FAQ section along with the illustrated breakdown. I have never been able to find the inner race for the upper bearing. The lower bearing and race is available. The upper bearing is available without the inner race so if the inner is bad, it could be a problem. I ended up polishing an inner race so that I could have a good one. Jim |
