67-72 2WD prerunner?
anyone ever constructed a prerunner from one of these trucks? i would love to see some pics, as i have not found anything like this anywhere, including the web. i have some ideas to do it, but my 72 4wd keeps me pretty busy.

not so much a poser, more desert racer !!!
but,yes, the look of a 4wd w/o the t-case and front axle. i happen to like the look on the 73-87 style chev, was just wondering if anyone had done a 67-72. i would like to do this myself, but i'm sure i am not the only one on this board who needs to eat and pay rent before rescuing another old project truck! between my daily driver '72 4wd and the parts i have collected for my streetrod 1929 Chev coupe, my fiance is liable to make me sleep in the garage with all my parts if i even think about dragging more stuff home! i for one would like to see a 72 3/4 ton long box with a fabtech 6 inch lift and 35 in cut fenders, internal cage, fuel cell, prerunner bumpers, maybe even no doors! just an idea, thought it would be different! |

I can't remember anyone making a 67-72 prerunner on here. I personally think it is lame, but if you live by a beach or some dunes, then it would be sweet.

Those pic's are cool, the 2nd one looks to be more of a Daily driver with no inside roll gage. Still very clean in my book. I have seen pic's of newer K5 maybe a 83 or so that is very trick iirc it had 100K in it. I wish I had a pic of it on this puter..

hey I had a 78 Lebaron with cranked up tortion bars and blocks on the rear end, I had 32' tires on it and a huge CB whip, now that was a fun Pre Runner, then I sold it to a bigger redneck then me, every once and a while a see it driving around town with a confederate flag draped inside the back window

At least the thing looks like a truck instead of sitting on the ground. The main problem is going to be the front suspention. You can only get 2 " of lift out of it. You would need to adapt some other a-arms for more travel. As for the rear, your going to need a leaf rear. The coils just can't get up there that high.

it's a small world. that 67-68 4x4 was for sale at a used car lot in St. George, Ut. I didn't know somebody in Vegas bought it, even better is that it is sitting in the Tucker's parking lot. I'm just excited to see it again...
I can see a prerunner being made out of our era trucks. I would use a coil rearend and move the coils up toward the front of the arms and used a stiffer spring. Up front either fab up some new arms or 'raise' the whole front suspension up. IMO the 2wd trucks have a lot of travel.

fabtech has 6" lifts for 73-87 erea truck, dont the front cross members bolt on to a 72 style frame, allowing you to get disc brakes? so any parts would then bolt on, right?/
as for the rear, a few years ago in either 4wd offroad or some other mag, saw a guy who swapped the trailing arms on top of the rear end, gaining lift. looked super trick. will have to dig it out again. with arms on top of axle, spring length is easy to do. |

I have a 69 c-20 with custom a-arms and lift coils up front...i got about 6in of lift out of it.I found a place that does fiberglass front prerunner style fenders that im going to be doing soon also.I am also going to start fabricating some prerunner style bumpers.I will try to get pics as soon as i can.

wow, figured this post was dead. how about some info on the company with prerunner fenders? there are several 69-72's in my area right now for under $1200. nothin pretty, but that's not what im lookin for anyway! functional and fugly is more my style!

I was lookin into doin this awhile ago and found that to get more then 4 inches of lift in the front without going custom I was going to have to go with an 88 up front crossmember.
I've never seen somebody swap a newer front member under one of these trucks but I'm sure somebody here has tried, and knows if it's possible or what mods need to be done. And for those of you who think lifted 2wd drives are stupid, try pounding over some washboard or up a rocky fire road at around 60 in a leaf sprung four by, then go get your teeth put back in and jump in the 2wd and I'm sure you'll change your mind. It's about what you want to do with it, not about how it looks.

The fiberglass fenders are made by a company called hannemann they can be found in the back of most 4 wheel drive magazines.I am glad i found this thread..i thought i was the only crazy guy that wanted to prerunner one of these trucks.

I want to build a prerunner GM truck SOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAD. I actully want to do it on a 78-91 K5. The ideal starting place I think is a 81 or 82 2wd Blazer. Or if TBI is desired 87-91 44x4 and convert it. Rear end would be at a decent hight and the springs used in the late 80's have good flex. Redoo the shocks and get some remote resrvior shocks and the rear would be pretty good. Loose the 10 bolt and go to a sf14 or a trussed Ford 9.
Full fiberglass front end and rear 1/4's With a Small block they say you can get it down to around 3600lb with a full cage. GM front is hard. Starting with a GM 4x4 I would be tempted to put a custom front suspension to get some trave out of it. Hate to say it but the ford TTB 2wd front suspension has a LOT of travel and a LOT of aftermarket available. You can get 35s on the 73 up with just fiberglass fenders. if you don't running the stock inner fenders. I'm sure you could do the same on 69-72. are the 73 a-arms the same as 72's. LMC has the same drawings in there 67-72 and 73-87 catalogs???? i have found a 73 prerunner long travel kit brand new that I would like to use on a 72 frame.
