WTB - "factory" 4 door conversion truck

I'm looking for one of the "factory" conversion 4 door trucks. I have seen a few on here from time to time. I'm trying to find something that has a fairly decent body. Location isn't an issue. Drivetrain isn't a big deal either. Just looking for either a complete "done" truck or a good project starter (like I need another one of those ). Brian

Brian, there is a member from Minn. dad has one for sale but I think it was pretty rusty. I'll try to think of his callname, I think they were wanting $2000 for it or close to it.

Yeah, still have the truck. Here's the writeup I made to put it on ebay but didn't meet reserve, has all the details you'll want to know. PM me your email addy and I will send you pictures. Want $2100 for truck. Can deliver for $.85/loaded mile. Can restore it for you too if you want but it will cost you plenty (already have a '72 Mustang 'Vert 302/auto thats getting a complete resto and a 351 cleveland this summer for a customer).

My dad has owned this truck since 1990 and it has always served faithfully for pulling anything from a 32' flatbed gooseneck to a 4-horse trailer. Oil changed every 3500 miles. It has about 100k on the odometer but not exactly sure. It is a CST/20 (3/4 ton) but has been upgraded to 1-ton leaf springs because of how much it was used to tow a gooseneck. Averages about 8-9 MPG.

The cab on this is a custom built coach from a shop in Texas (forget the name but could be ordered like this thru GM). This company took two truck cabs and put them together and also lengthened the frame to a wheelbase of 127" for the additional cab length. The front and rear doors are the same in this custom cab and all four have smoking (triangle) windows. There is rust in the rockers and where the cab meets the floor, and sheetmetal screwed to that spot to keep the cab from flapping and doing more damage to either piece. Fortunately because the doors are standard size, rocker panel patches, sill plates and floor patch panels are all the same size in the front as the rear and standard 67-72 GM patch panels will fit. Doors, cab corners and fenders are all fairly good, some small pinholes at the bottoms of the doors. Paint is faded and scratched in a few places and and there are a couple pieces of bent trim. Floors are mostly solid and shouldn't need much attention. Bed is a longbed fleetside with a solid and complete wood floor. In the center of the bed is a 1/2" thick steel plate bolted through the frame with a 2" ball for attaching fifth wheel (gooseneck) trailer. Truck includes an ugly blue topper and spare. Originally equipped with dual tanks but only one is currently installed. AM/FM Cassette radio included not installed. Factory tachometer dash. Center of dash IS NOT hacked up for a radio. Windshield is cracked, although I currently have a '69 4x4 parts truck that I can pull a windshield from if the buyer wishes, and other parts can be purchased at the end of the auction.

Mechanically the truck has a 350CI (5.7L) Target Master engine with a 4-barrel Q-jet and factory intake manifold, true dual exhaust through ramshorn manifolds, 4 speed muncie SM465 with a rockwell T221 divorced transfer case (with 1.94 low), floor shift. Power to the fronts is transfered thru Warn lockout hubs and the rear has a No slip positraction carrier with 4.56 gears. Truck rides on 8 lugs all around with power steering that works well. There is a dual electric heater underneath the front bench seat for additional heat when desired. Tires are 9.50X16.5, new radiator in 2001 and brand new points put in before it was parked. We're selling this truck because my family purchased newer truck with more amenities. The only electrical annoyance is that the potiometer in the heater control burnt out and so there is a switch under it to turn the dual fans on/off. Would be an easy fix with a replacement potiometer.

Truck is located in Delano, MN which is about 30 miles west of Minneapolis. Truck starts, runs, and drives just fine. It could easily be driven to california if the buyer desired. I can deliver to within about 1000 miles for $.85/loaded mile, or it can be picked up from where it sits. If you wish to make a deposit in the full amount of the price of the truck after the auction I can keep it here for up to 6 months at a price of $20/month.

Truck needs paint, and some rust repair. Body mounts are old and rubber (not urethane) which gives slight appearance of cab sagging in middle, even though the cab is not sagging and the cab supports are all solid. Frame is completely solid, mechanically pristine and very reliable. With some bodywork and paint it could make a Four Wheeler cover vehicle. Has some agressively knobbed tires on it which are a few years old but with the 4WD engaged there is nowhere this truck will not go. I've personally used this truck to pull a vintage impala out of a deep muddy swamp and it barely slowed it down!

Botboy, could you send me some more pics? I've seen the truck before (pics) but it's been a while. I'm trying to stay away from too much rust. I have a few other leads I need to follow up on. I didn't think that there would be this many replies! Thanks guys! Brian

Botboy, I couldn't get it to work. But then again, I'm a little slow..... Am I missing something? I thought I saved the pics of it in my own folder, but I must not have. Brian
