How should I add front tow hooks to my 71 K-10???

My 71 doesn't have tow hooks and I want to add some. I was curious how others had done this. Factory tow hooks seem to be hard to find so I don't think I will go that route.

granted the frames are a bit different, but on my 82 i added tow hooks from and s-10 and use the front holes for the swaybar mount, and drilled a new hole for the rear bolt on the hook.

there are lots of different kinds of hooks you can use. hooks from some 73-87 trucks, as well as some newer (90's) trucks will work well. maybe someone can elaborate on this for me. since you dont have holes already, just about anything you can bolt to the frame will work for ya.

also, i plan to add a set of rear towhooks to my truck...since the originals are rarer than the fronts, I will just grab a set of hooks that come on Blue Bird school bus chassis, they are very beefy and cheap.

You got a source for those school bus hooks?

I have some cheap Summit Racing style hooks. The holes lined up exactly with existing holes in my frame rails. They come in black or chrome.

Are you referring to the factory tow hook holes (if you had factory tow hooks)?

I guess. They are factory holes but I never had the factory hooks.

There is a school bus junkyard about 45 min. from my house. On every Blue Bird, there are 4 of these identical hooks. My dad seems to remember the 'yard charging him $10/set (but that was about 10 years ago when he put them on his old C/10, lol).

Wish I had a digital camera... a LONG time ago I put a set like these http://www.truckaddons.com/Catalog/E...r_towhooks.htm (available anywhere) under the front of the frame rails, just behind the bumper. If you get this type, be sure to get the spring clip also, since the hook mounts upside-down. Pretty sure I had to drill holes... I have used the heck out of these with zero problems.

Those look just like mine but I have black. Mine are not upside-down though.
