What are you guys using for new 4x4 shifter knobs??? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Just wondering what you guys are using to replace the transfer case shifter knob for your 4x4 trucks/blazers. Mine is old and faded and I want something that looks good for our trucks (kinda stock) but new looking.
Any ideas or pics?

I use a hurst T handle I guess its called. Caps hang on it real well.

well I made one when I did a 208/205 swap in my Old 83 K5 it's not stock looking but it worked out pretty good seeing how I have forgot to post pic's heres a link the knob

ever thought about painting your original one? I'd say it would last a long time since you won't be touching that often.

My old Jimmy has a Chevette shifter knob someone stuck on the transfer case shifter. It still has the 4 speed shift pattern on it. I mess with my friends telling them it is an automatic and a 4 speed....lol

i wonder if you could have the original blasted or somthing and powder coated. that would hold up for a long time if they could do it.

this is totally non original looking but i thought it would be a neat idea. a friend of mine raises elk and harvests the velvet, so the animal produces "buttons" or the remains of the antler after it is harvested. these things are shaped just right for my hand and i have one i plan to drill and epoxy a threaded insert into and use it for my shifter handle.

i bought a used shift knob from a '72 K5 to compliment my NP205 swap, the Rockwell had a blank knob and the shift pattern on a sticker. So it's semi-stock.

Hey Adam...would you have a picture of your old 4x Shifter Knob? I believe I still have the original shifter knob for my truck. The P.O. looks to have rigged up a shifter and welded the top half of the original shifter on to it. It might answer a few questions I have about my original transfer...

there is a textured ring around the outer perimeter that I have only seen on Rockwell trucks ('60-'69) and one 1970 NP205 truck (the burb that my NP205 and knob came from, which is original according to p/o).

my 72 205 has the same knob with textured ring. my buddy's 72 205 is also the same. have actually not seen one different.

For some reason I had a hard time finding one to fit the 205 the 208 has different threads the 205 is like a 7/32's Fine thread or some odd thread size. So I made the one in the pic out of bar stock Alum. I know it's not even close to OEM but hey on that K5 it didn't matter.

I used the stock one as they are getting harder to find if your is old looking you can polish it up and it will look good for year's....

Highboy yes it comes off and it does have some weight to it so you could use it for a hammer or a Adult toy if your in to that stuff :p .

Cethern- I was wondering if I could use that to sing on American Idol! Ha Ha!
Highboy 04- I don't think you can powdercoat something that can't withstand REALLY high heat- so painting the shifter will have to do unless you want to melt it into oblivion- right?
Mine looks just like the pic posted by 1969 GMC.
