I dont think there should be any washers or o-rings. If the bolts are leaking then that means the oil is leaking by the intake gaskets. That oil is also probably getting into the intake passages and cylinders. Is you truck smoking, burning, losing oil.

it burns oil when you hammer the gas.i belive its running off the intake onto the exhaust though,so its not technicly(sp) burning oil.its just leaking on the top of the intake

Thats the thing, the only way for oil to get to those bolt holes, is to go past the intake gasket. If it is leaking past the gasket at the bolts, then there is a chance it is leaking into the chambers. You might have the intake checked for flatness. Replace the gaskets with some silicone, should fix it up.

it's a very common problem , when the intake was installed those bolts should of been treated with thread sealer just remove the bolts clean them up put thread sealer on them retorque the manifold and you'll be good to go,it's doubtfull there's any problems with the intake gaskets

There is your fix. On the earlier small blocks, these 4 holes are directly above pushrods for cylinder #'s 3, 4, 5 and 6. Can't remember which cylinder's push rods are below which holes though, I think all exhaust IIRC. Anyhow, one more thing NOT to do is to use a bolt that is too long, as it will either rub the push rod, or worse yet, break it.

Had the same trouble with a with an Edelbrock 2101 intake. I am looking hard at some of the aftermarket bolt sets because some of them are shouldered bolts and maybe I won't cringe when tightning them down. Let us know what works cause i'll bet we aren't the only two with the problem.

I ran some mr gasket 1/2 head intake bolts with shouldered heads still leaked when i had the intake off put some silly on the middle 4 hasnt leaked since..

On my 85 i used exhaust manifold bolts off a 454 85 model used them as sbc intake bolts there shouldered also but 9/16 head some of the 454 3/4 tons had header type manifolds so maybe you can buy bolts for that app cheaper than aftermarket kits.

i've found silicone does little to solve the problem but using a high quality automotive thread sealer with teflon in it works every time

Contact Edelbrock for the proper torque sequence and their recomendations on the issue you have....they are very helpful.
