Post What Carb for our 70 sb 1/2 ton 350

Our 70 sb, 1/2 ton with a 350 ci (mild comp cam and dart heads) We need to change out the dual pumper that came with the truck. We are thinking along the 600-650 cfm but which carb is best for the money, Edelbrock about $200, the demon 300+ the holy is from 220 to 390. I want the best but the best price is important. I have herd some good things about the edelbrock square bore. Thanks Ed ke6bnl@juno.com

For reliability and easy to screw with(if you ever have to)i never have much id opt for the Edelbrock or Carter for your truck,if you want performance get the manual choke model-cheaper and run fatter,if not i have about 10 Holleys in a box,and lots of their parts, wont run one on a daily driver ever again!!!!maybe a toy???

OH yeah get the 600 manual choke or even the 750 with electric for the description of your motor-sounds pumped up a bit.Dont go too big carb like alot of people.on mostly stock 396-402's i run a 600,thats what they seem to like best so far,and not much reason for more.i had a 780 Holley on a mildly built 396 and i HATED that thing!!!!worst mistake i ever made-ended up buying the 600 Edelbrock, adjusted the 2 screws once about 5 years ago, havent seen it since. The Holley would have been apart, adjusted, off many times, thrown, and eventually under the bench or at a swapmeet, maybe its just a bad one some people swear by them.Just remember DONT over carb.funny when i was at circle K kid had the hood off his later 70's Camaro,i asked whats the motor it looked good he said a big block 350(i snickered quietlty)stock everything except a Torker intake,a 800 Holley, and headers, bolted to some crap-packs,said it was one of the fastest things in town,i just about said wanna race my big old pickup, but i resisted, didnt want to make him look to bad.bet its a turd off the line!!!!my mostly stock 402 in the truck, loves to baste the tires, really goes when it finally hooks up.guess i better get that posi in there someday!!!!by the way all my motor has is a 600 edelbrock, performer intake,headers,2 1/2 exh, seems to be a good little combo so far,got a 468 for it next.
