Question 700 trans mated to np205???

Im thinking of replacing the 3:08s in my 72 kten with a set of 3:73s. Along with this I want to install a 700 o.drive trans. I think ive seen someone that makes an adapter for this.
Has anyone done this ? / whats all involved? what about gear selector om my tilt column? Thanks!

Keep an eye on the message board on CK5.com and Pirate4x4.com. Every now and then they come up for sale. They go quickly so you gotta be ready to jump on it.

Here's the web site for Advanced Adapters - http://www.advanceadapters.com/

dumb question, why not just go to a 208 or 241? adapters to mate them to a 700R4 are a dime a dozen, as every 4x4 700R4 truck came with one. both cases are lighter, as they are aluminum rather than cast iron like the 205. if im not mistaken both cases offer a lower low range too.

way not cool man, a guy posts up inquiring about parts, and you go in to snag the parts out from under him before he has the chance to respond. definitely not a way to make a good impression.

I am definitely not trying to do that.
That is why I posted on the thread that I PM'd Jamie so that too fast could see.
How else am I supposed to let Jamie know that I am interested? I can't be certain that too fast wants it, and I wanted to let Jamie know somehow in case too fast doesn't want it. So I pm'd Jamie and posted on the thread. I would agree with you if I had PM'd Jamie and then not posted, that would have been way not cool man

I think you can if you use a shorter trans output or a spacer between trans and tcase

700r4 to 205

When converting from a turbo350 to a 700r4 you use the same adapter housing you just have to put a shorter output shaft on the 700r4 advanced adapters sells this shaft for under $100. hope this helps.

When I did my 700/205 deal in my 83 I used a 2in spacer to make up for the longer output shaft. It worked out ok I had to move the shifter back some what and find Metric bolts for the back end of the 700r. I found some all thread as I could not find any metric studs.

208 & 241's aren't nearly as strong as the 205.

Why can't you just cut the output shaft?

I currently have the NP205 and am converting from the TH350 to the 700R4/4L60 trans and am wondering if anyone has just cut the output shaft to fit. . I am in the process of building the trans, and instead of buying the "custom" output shaft from advance adaptors for $150, I can just cut mine, clean up the splines and that will work.....Any ideas of why it won't? Has anyone else done this?

there are not enough splines to cut it.

well aware of that, but if you've got a truck that you're putting a 700R4 in, its weaker than the 208/241, so you shouldnt have any need for the 205. if you're really concerned with strength, ditch the 700R4 before you ditch the 208/241. they're plenty strong.

Yeh I have cut the output shaft before, we converted my bros. 82 1 ton 4x4 with a manual 4 speed to a 700. I just used the stock length 4x4 shaft and a spacer block and took about an inch off the output shaft with a cut off saw. The fun part was doing that with the shaft in the trans already. It's been about 10 years since that conversion and if he cannot tear it up no one can. good luck with yours.
