Odd problem w/ 76GMC c15
ok, not sure whats going on here but for some reason, after the truck has warmed up (10-15 minutes minimum), if i shut it off and leave it for 1/2 to 4 hours and try to start it, most of the time it wont start as if it was flooded. it is all stock 350 with Rochester 4bbl... its real annoying when i come home from work on my lunch break and cant get it started (and being late getting back to work). Sucks having to drive the wifes Nisshat Pathloser...
any suggestions or similar problems/solutions?

i talked with a mechanic friend of mine and he didn't know exactly what it could be but said its probably ignition related although i don't see how since it turns over, just doesn't start. He suggested maybe the ignition coil and fuel filter/pump. it does seem to be getting a spark so the coil might be out of question....
this is just so confusing.. I've checked over several things and everything seems to be working fine...

it would mean pulling the carb apart and while your at it probally rebuild it...might be better to get a new carb, and the floats are internal to the carb, im not shure how to get to them on a stock carb...

ok i have been thinking of replacing it anyways, been looking for a decent rebuilt Edelbrock 650cfm (the one that my mechanic friend strongly suggests)

sounds more ignition related to me, especially if you have no real problems with it once its running.

it still turns over no problem... i can sit there cranking it for 20 minutes no problem... so i am really wondering if it might be the coil, ignition module thing or the carb.....

Does your gas line/tank vent well? I have heard of vapor lock in the fuel line with a warm motor keeping it from starting. From my understanding it comes from not venting your fuel system well.

if the ventilation is all it needs, what would be the easiest way to take care of that?

Well mine has a vapor line going from pump to tank. Some remove these with aftermarket pumps and use vent caps on the gas tank cap or so I have heard. Had a fried just cut his and leave it and he had problem like yours.

ive tried some calling around to different places and i got different answeres from different shops. one said oil pump is on the verge of going out, another said carb, another said "its normal when the piston rings are shot", even a good friends of mine's dad whos retired military master mechanic didnt know without actually taking a look at it...
