Alternator options

This may have been answered in the past, but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. What are my options in replacing my alternator, and how much money are we talking for those options? It's a 71 CST, 350/manual tranny. I'm tearing her down pretty much all the way, trying to replace just about everything. Better to get a stock replacement and keep the external voltage regulator, go to a single wire, or go to a 100 amp or better upgrade? If I do any of the latter, will I have to upgrade anything else to go along with it. Brand and source recommendations are also appreciated.
Thanks!
-Tim

Its very easy to do an internal reg. alt. You have key on power at your external regulator. cut it out and run it to the alt. and your ready. I use a 94 Amp. GM internal reg on my K5 and it was one of the best upgrades I did.
